Duane Michals (born February 18, 1932) is an American photographer. Largely self-taught, his work is noted for its innovation and artistry. Michals' style often features photo-sequences and the incorporation of text to examine emotion and philosophy, resulting in a unique body of work.

I'm sharing a few of the thought provoking writings by Duane Michals I discovered while randomly thumbing through a photography book at the library...It is sad that i'm not able to share the corresponding photographs.

"In the circle of all things"

Imagine this then if you can,
before time became a thought,
when everything was not,
And the conjurer had yet to play his hand.
In this repose, centered, still,
A clearness chose itself to will,
Then with a kaleidoscope's quick turn,
All became from star to worm.
And you who read, and I who write,
are conscious seeds of delight.

"The weight of a tear"

Love's Melancholy and Joy
balance lightly on a feather,
One tear drop can destroy,
Their symmetry forever,
Above the tear, the sigh,
The feather floats like laughter,
The answer was goodbye,
There would be no happily ever after.
