Of all the various plays I see, which'd be around 20-25 a year, you can generally pick what'll appeal to different styles of people. Most often you can also divide them into reasonably general categories of "good", "bad" and "indifferent" (both as plays & as productions).

However I'm going to be somewhat interested to see the reviews of Top Girls are like.

IMO it is good - it's presented with style, the entire cast was excellent, and it's a thoughtful play with genuine nuance (so rare)... but the audience numbers were also substantially lower at the end than they were at the start, and I don't think it's a terribly accessible play. We even had confused applause at any odd moment the stage lights dimmed ("is this the interval/end?.. umm.. clap?.. no?.. yes?.. whoops..")

So I'll be interested to see exactly what the critics make of it. Will they side with the audience or the english teachers? ;)
