World of Goo; not for me, maybe for you

I like figuring things out.

No, wait. Scratch that.

I need to figure things out.

For example, the other week or so ago I was helping the Girlfriend house-sit and kitty-sit her brother's home while his band was out on tour. They have a Wii, and so to drown out the silence we played some games. For those curious, this was my second time ever playing this system and here's a quick sum-up of my experience: Wii Sports is fun and exhausting, Mario Kart is impossible to play with the wheel controller, and it is amazing how close my Mii actually resembles, well, me.

But there was talk of this game called World of Goo, which is, without a doubt, visually gorgeous:

Yet we couldn't figure out what we were supposed to do. We clicked, we shook the remote, we sacrificed an offering of fruit in Great Cthulhu's name--and nothing happened. So we shut down and that was that. Or was it? I can't help but need to figure videogames out, and so it sat in the back of my mind until I discovered a free demo was available for Macs. So I ran through the first few levels last night, finally figuring out what is what and such.

World of Goo is a puzzle game, in which the little blobs of goo are needed to construct towers and other things to reach a pipe or specific place in a level. The faster you go and the less globs used equals a better score. Physics plays a key part in the game, making towers tilt and fall under pressure. It's kind of fun, but kind of the same thing every time...and the demo lost my interest fast. Which says something, I think. So there ya go. Not for me, but maybe for you. But either way, I'm glad to get it now.
