International Paana Uchiwa Fan Project
After the raging success of last years International Uchiwa Project, we are back again to make another for NEWS' upcoming tour. Go read about last year's project here.
As most fans know, the best way to express your thoughts or feelings at a concert is through the use of an uchiwa. For those who don't know, Uchiwa's are the Japanese style Fans that are either sold at venues (with the members picture on them), or are handmade to display personal messages to the members.
When making their own uchiwa, fans often put their emotions, thoughts and feelings into each design, displaying this to the members.

With this in mind, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to create an uchiwa that showcases the hearts of NEWS fans all over the world. With the help of international paanas, the uchiwa will be designed, made and then taken to a concert during the upcoming NEWS Concert Tour.
Last year we managed to get the uchiwa into every sing concert on the tour! Although this year, it seems unlikely that we will manage the same thing. We will try to get it to as many concerts as possible.
The design:
A standard jumbo uchiwa base has two sides, however, only one side can be shown at one time (obviously). The intended design of the uchiwa will be two sided. One side will be a message for NEWS to read from the stage. This side of the uchiwa will be designed with the help of anyone who wants to get involved. The only restriction is that the design should include the country flags of all the paanas who get involved in the project.
The other side will be covered in short hand written messages to NEWS. The hand written messages will not be shown to the members, however, will be a way to bring all your feelings along into the venue. The completed 2016 International Uchiwa was of the same design and is pictured above.
How it works:
So here’s where you come in. The project will be divided into three phases.
Phase 1: Information and message gathering.
END DATE: 18th March 2017
We need to gather a list of countries that paanas live in, so that we know which flags to use in the main design. We also need to start gathering messages to be hand written on the back of the uchiwa. Messages need to be short so that they will all fit on the back so please stick to the word limit.

Phase 2: Designing and Creating
END DATE: 24 March 2017
This is your chance to contribute to the design of the main side of the uchiwa. Any idea is a good idea and will be considered. I already have a few ideas myself.
Uchiwa design guidelines and further information will be udated soon.
After the design is decided on, I will make the uchiwa based off the given designs (the example uchiwa above, are examples of my own uchiwa designs).
Phase 3: Uchiwa taken to a concert
CONCERT DATE: TBA
Once it is completed, the uchiwa will be taken along to a concert in the upcoming tour in hopes that the boys will see it. We hope to get the uchiwa to as many concerts as possible. Ongoing updates and photos will be posted on twitter before, during and after the tour. After the tour is complete, a short report will be posted.
*Note: Last year, we had the opportunity to send out a small token to participants of the project. Unfortunately it won't be possible to do so again this year.
