I have to get this out.
I know out there on the internet there are some very, very intelligent people. I mean, really smart. They're cultured and classy and have done extensive research, love to read, are diverse in their tastes, and revel in intellectual conversation. And from what I've noticed, these sorts of people are also the type to see a movie, enjoy it, then read the book based off the movie, and love it so much that they then hate the movie for butchering the original story. I understand this. I've been there. And in this moment in time, I'd like to say a very simple, sweet -
FUCK YOU. SHUT YOUR CONDESCENDING, PRETENTIOUS FACE HOLE AND STOP WASTING SPACE.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen these 'cultured' individuals say, "I really loved the movie, so I went and picked up the book; it was lovely! But, oh, how they butchered it in the movie! I can't even watch it anymore!" This does not make you smart. This does not make you better than others around you who have not read the book and/or who enjoy the movie anyway. If anything, it makes you sound like a fucking ignoramus who will never find happiness.
I loved the Harry Potter books, and I'll be the first to say that the movies have slowly gone downhill over the years. In fact, I don't bother going to see the newer ones anymore. But you know what? So fuckin' what. The movies are what they are. They're film adaptations made for children. If a friend asked me to watch one of the movies with them, I would, but I realize that the movies aren't mean to be a perfect play-by-play of the books. They're meant to be goddamn movies.
I don't care that Frollo in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame is significantly different than the original Frollo in Victor Hugo's work. I just don't fucking care. I love the movie, I love THAT Frollo, and you can shove your pompous patronization up your tight asshole. Jesus. Let that thing see some dick for cryin' out loud. Then maybe you can enjoy something for once in your life.
