House stepped into his apartment, closed the front door behind him quietly and sighed deeply and wearily. The apartment was quiet and empty -- Wilson was still at work, as far as House knew -- and he stood on the spot for a few moments, head downturned, eyes staring at the floor.

What a day it had been; a draining, exhausting day. Not so much the class he’d had to teach -- that, in comparison to the lunch he’d had with Wilson and Cuddy, had been a piece of cake. No, the encounter with Cuddy while eating lunch was the crux of House’s tiredness. He didn’t realise just how stressed he’d been over that until now, until walking into the safety of his own place, where there was no need to pretend. At least, not while Wilson was not around.

Slowly, House made his way towards the closet, setting his helmet down on the way. He put his jacket and backpack in the closet and decided, before he did anything else, that he wanted nothing more than a long, hot shower to try and soak the stress away. Making his way to the bathroom, he grabbed a towel out of the linen closet as he passed it and then headed into the bathroom.

He undressed, letting his clothes drop in a messy pile and set his cane against the vanity before he made his way to the toilet. After taking a quick leak, House then moved across to the shower, switched it on and adjusted the temperature, and stepped in.

He turned the hot tap on harder until the water felt like red-hot needles against his skin. It was distracting and relaxing, and House paid no attention to washing himself for a long while -- he merely stood under the spray, trying to let the memories of the day evaporate from his mind and wash away from him along with the water rushing down his body and into the drain.
