Basically several things have gone wrong today with trying to make the internet work at my house. It started promisingly when the comcast man came at 1230pm during my 12-4 appointment time - I was on the top of the list! Also that comcast setup went just fine and the guy was nice enough, talking to me about art and his trip to Italy while setting up my modem and comcastness. The routers were where I'd have all the problems today. First I setup my cheap, bought on internet for $40 router. It worked at first...but then I quickly found out its service was very intermittant, it would work for 5min, then not for 2 and such. So not wanting to have to go and buy a better, but more expensive router, I first decided to call up comcast tech support. The man was very helpful and walked me through several steps and after about 25min it was very clear to the both of us that I basically had a shitty router. Oh well, so after hearing of a good linksys router on sale for a mere $50 at office depot from Jessica, I scurried out and purchased this new and assumably improved router. And lo and behold when I hooked it up just to my little laptop it worked great. Now the problem came when trying to make it work wirelessly on more than one computer. First I was using a encryption/protection thing that wasn't compatable with Jessica's computer, so we had to reset the settings. Great, no problem really. She was able to connect right away. However, now no wireless, but yes LAN internet for me. More tech support! This time with lynkys people. First was Becca, the 22 nurse in the Philipines who was lower level support, very nice but ulitimatly of no help. Then came Rachel in the Philipines still, but higher level and less chatty. After trying serveral things and changing the internet's channel (?) and IP addresses it finally worked for the two of us. I now fear hooking up Cathy and Teagan's internet. (crosses fingers)
