The Big Bang Theory: Penny/Sheldon 2x21

Your weekly P/S picspam.
And it was a bitch to do because first my usual capping program wouldn't open the file, so I had to switch to VLC (which I hate making caps with), then I had a brilliant idea to try out a different coloring (and meh, not keeping it) and to make it all even better I was watching a drama while waiting for the show and my mood considerably dropped...

Is it me or they're making this waaay too easy? Seriously. How can they act all shocked with our shipping when they give us such episodes!

Lovely things to mention:

- Sheldon's absolutely charming when he's in a good mood and come on, even Penny knows that.

- I already pointed it out earlier, but I love love that he's such a gentleman. After all the jerks and buffed up idiots Penny has dated, I bet she'd appreciate that aspect of Sheldon's personality.

- Awwww he finds her English "charming"! He says it's because he's in a good mood, but I can't help but point out that this is a very specific term that can have very precise romantic connotations.

He didn't ask her to join him which is not that surprising... Plus tbh I understand it. If I had to live with a roommate, constantly share my meals with them and our friends, I'd certainly jump on an opportunity of being alone and eating whatever the hell I can't otherwise.

The thing that I loved the most about this scene, though is Penny's teasing when she realizes he can't get into his apartment. There's a certain playfulness to it that comes with the closeness and her presence in Sheldon's life. She knows how to hit and she doesn't miss. What was it about Sheldon needing to be hit with a frying pan? Penny sure qualifies for such job ;)

- Whether it was a consciously written in or not, Penny calling him a beautiful mind is such a great callback to the pilot!

- I love that one minute he's all arrogant about the whole "keeping his keys in a bowl" thing, only to be called out on it the next one. In a way he admits his absolute control over everything is actually far from perfect as symbolized by something as trivial as leaving keys home.

- It amuses me to know that Penny just goes over their place whenever she wants. You can bet she'd actually let herself in his room if she'd wanted. Sheldon can fight her all he wants, but it's a lost cause ;)

This had to posted separately, because skinny dipping? Really? That is certainly a very intriguing choice of an example and I'm quite surprised to hear it coming from Sheldon. Again, I'm curious to know if the writers even realize the weight of the phrasings they sometimes chose for this character and for this pairing. It's soaked in more sexualized connotations way more than it should be according to their "P/S ewww no way" plan.

This whole scene is so freaking couple-y, it's not even funny. Starting with the way they share the meal and ending with "how was your day". Interestingly once again Sheldon is perfectly capable of adapting to an unusual circumstance. Hell, he's capable of adapting to the point of actually initiating something as trivial to him as small talk. It's also quite intriguing to have this particular scene in parallel with Vegas arc where the boys are asking for a "girlfriend experience". What Sheldon's experiencing atm himself is in a way a relationship experience.

He almost seems disappointed that she didn't get it. Like he was sure she'd know him well enough to know he would chose Spock. Personally I think it's great that she did not guess correctly. It means they both still have things to discover about each other. Which brings us to the next moment...

I think it's one of the most interesting scenes we got between these 2 characters so far. The fact that Sheldon is clearly intrigued by the "friends with benefits" concept and that he actually actively tries to understand it speaks volume about him. Again it's amazing how he choses to ask Penny about it. About her potential relationship with Leonard. And not only I love the fact that she seems horrified by the idea, but also that she actually assumes that Leonard might have said that it was true. Might be petty of me, I admit, but this not only puts a lot of light on how Penny perceives men in general (considering her past experiences, it's not a surprise), but also that for her, Leonard is actually a possible same jerk as all of her exes.

This is just cute. Also looks like Penny is the only person capable of more or less effectively shut Sheldon up (remember Howard's unsuccessful attempts?). And the whole "shut your hole" thing reminds me of Jackie and Hyde's "shut your pie hole" -- for any That 70s Show fans around ;)

So she gets up to talk to him even though she's beyond annoyed. And exactly how many times did she take care of him sick? The familiarity of the "that's only for when you're sick" line and the fact that she actually remembers the song gotta make you wonder...

I'd add something more constructive but this the part where I start awwwing ;)

Erm once you start squeeing you can't stop, because the genuine emotions behind Sheldon's "thank you for letting me stay here" and Penny's cute smile in reply completed with a "sweetie"... it's just adorable. Absolutely adorable. Not to mention the fact that for a moment she just stays there and watches him sleep. Can we say awwww one more time? AWWWWWW ♥

Sorry no pic, but that last scene mirrors the Penny sneaking out of Sheldon's bedroom in 2x03 one so perfectly, I just hardly doubt it's a coincidence. And again with the sexual innuendos surrounding these 2. Whether it's written purposefully or not, it's there.
