Maybe warp drives work differently in this timestream?

ISTR there was a plot in TNG about warp drives damaging the fabric of space and time (a bit like global warming or something) but they seem to have dropped that somewhere along the way.

but the continum is the same up until the point where the future romulan ship comes in from the previous future, something like 25 years (or however old kirk is meant to be) before the story is set, so they can't be *that* different.

Yeah I liked that idea, but they forgot all about that a *long* time ago

Isn't the issue more that it's dangerous to warp into a system in case you collide with something?

I have no idea why I'm having this conversation.

yup, but they just do it with no sense of danger in the new film.

Looking back, there are other continuity problems, but that's the only one which annoyed me mid-film

I liked it! It was fun, funny, and exciting.

There were lots of elements that had me oohing and aahing over links to other characters.

Simon Pegg doesn't need a gimp, however.
