Cycling week 7

Turns out I've got old.

Today is Tuesday. On Saturday there was a Thee Faction gig, then a house party c/o 1432. I'm not yet ready to cycle due to leg-death.

One thing that's odd about all this melarke is the sponsorship. I got a phone call from the people I'm rasing money for on Friday. Nothing has made me feel like I was getting charity mugged more than that conversation. The first thing they did "confirmed" that I was on target with my money raised, I didn't ask anythign to prompt that - doing so in a way which made me feel like I was in sales and needed to try harded, even though they used the phraise "you are on target". Then they asked if I'd go and do some actual charity mugging for them. I asked if any money I raised would go towards by bike race target. There was a pause. Their actual reply: "no, the benefit to you would be for you to be able to practice you stree funding skill in a supportive enviroment"...... now two things - 1) that sound like the sort of thing Ian Duncan Smith would say about the workfair free-labour-in-poundshop thing, and you are a charity and suposed to be the good guys and 2) who the actual fuck uses "street funding" to describe to a method of asking stangers for money, to an effing civillian.... (i.e. a non-charity person).... it all left a really bad taste in my mouth, making me feel like a cog in a buisness

In short, while I'm totally enjoying the cycling part of this, I wouldn't take a charity place ever again. Still only £175 quid to go, and I never have to think about this ever again. Most off the money I've got so far has been from some really lovely chums, who helped me get to 50% of the total I need to raise in 2 days..... which reminds me, I never sent out thank you notes (daniel is a bad daniel)

In other news: shopping list of things I need before doing another race:
Cycling gloves with gel pads in the palms - by biggest problem towards the end of the 50 mile race, was holding on the the handle bars for any length of time - I was wearing cycling gloves bought from a 99p shop though
New cycling helmet - mine fell apart just before the 50 mile thing - we managed to jury rig it together for the race, and I've got my old one with a loose visor until I get my act together, but it wont last forever
Things to keep my feet in place on the cycling pedals - when I got tired in the 50 mile thing, my abilty to keep my feet in the right place really suffered, especially going uphill. If I'm gonna use these, i need as much time as possible to get used to them
