I love Jack's ability to distract and divert from the subjects he doesn't want to discuss. I like the way this unfolds too, with James finally figuring it out and nearly bursting into the smithy to accost Will.

This is very funny. I like Sparrington when you write it^_^ skin the colour of Demerara sugar is totally unexpected and endearing. This has me in stitches every time: How do you separate the men from the boys in the navy? With a crowbar and a bucket of cold water.

I guess most of all I liked Jack's way of talking about Bill without letting it get too painful. “You can guess the rest, eh? Boy becomes a man. (Although we’ll still call him Boy, or things’ll get hideously convoluted).

Thank you!

I found that joke on a modern navy site. It seems to be quite widespread ;) (But I added the bucket of cold water.)

Jack specialises in telling without telling. Or something.

A good storyteller can tell even a well-known story in a riveting, entertaining and novel way. You and Jack -- peas in a pod.

You write a Jack Sparrow that is totally plausible in his history, misdirection, humor, self-deprecation, sexual expertise, and tenderness.

After the usual, interminable niceties, I succeeded in directing our conversation to Will’s childhood in England.
Those two words 'interminable niceties' completely sums up James.

As always, the grin on my face is huge and filled with delight.
