dreamwidth and spam

May 08, 2009 09:37

(Cross-posted from the respectable monkey. Apologies if you've now seen it twice.)

Ever since I signed up for Dreamwidth, I seem to have a lot more opportunties to invest in Nigerian Rolexes filled with dodgy viagra. Anyone else notice the same thing?

I already had my profile set up not to display my email to anyone, so the only way I can think of to increase security is to switch my DW emails to an account that I never read unless I'm looking for something specific. This isn't a problem now, but it'll be a pain if I ever start using DW properly. (I don't plan to move unless everyone else does: I'm just grabbing my usernames.)

The reason I suspect DW is partly the timing of the increase in spam, and partly that it's coming only to the 2 email addies that I use for my two DW accounts, not to the others that I use for work and my kids. The only time this happened with LJ was when I stupidly typed my address into a comment that was only visible for a minute or two.
