After using Kate Tucker's guitar when I was recording last week, I decided that I have to get one of my own. Problem is, I want a black one, which they don't make, and I don't have $1200-$1600 handy to get one even if they did. I can get a Korean-made one for half that, maybe less, but I suspect I'd have to play a bunch to find a decent one. I was ( Read more... )

In my opinion, shopping for any guitar involves finding "the right one", even if you're already set on the particular model and color you want ( ... )

I do like the Tele Deluxes. I've played a few in local shops that were cool, but I remember them having iffy fretwork - lots of sharp ends and whatnot. I would definitely consider getting one if I could find the 'right' one.

I had a Tele Thinline for a while, and I liked it a lot, though I didn't care for the bridge, and the single coils were a little shrill for the kind of music I was doing. It just sang when you strummed it though.

I've seen more than one person gig with an Ibanez where they've taped over the name on the headstock!

I tried a Gretsch Pro Jet w/ the Bigsby and I liked it. You gotta try a bunch of them though as the craftsmanship is not consistent. the TV jones "designed" pick ups have a bit of the gretsch vibe (they're mini humbucker, kind of sound like a p-90, less shrill than a single coil). It's a nice guitar for the money. It's funny you talk about teles, I've kind of come to the conclusion that teles are more manly than strats (I have 4 strats so I'm not sure what that makes me)so I've been taking apart my tele and trying to upgrade the hardware (Callaham vintage bridge, new tuners and pick ups (though that's another story in itself, there's about 9000 guys that make hi-end pick ups in their garages and about 9000 opinions on which one are best)Oh I just forgot I played a Fender Highway 1 tele and it was really nice probably about $750 bucks, but it's american made and it has a nitro (really thin, like old fenders) satin finish ( ... )

harry's the elder tuft, but all of the guys there are awesome. sam has a seafoam green strat that looks just like the one in Stranger Than Fiction.

usually he carries mostly acoustics, but he knows everything about everything fretted (or not), i swear.
