So i'm still unemployed and growing more and more in debt by the day, but everything else is going absolutely great.
The rest of this post is going to be music-oriented, im warning you now.
NXNE was this past week. I was a volunteer assistant stage manager at Supermarket, which meant I was committed to be there Thursday and Friday evenings, rushing bands on and off stage. My highlights and/or recommendations?
Wednesday - Saw Jaguar Love at MOD Club and their live performance was nothing less than incredible. And the songs seem a lot more accessible than what Johnny Whitney was doing with Neon Blonde. Didn't get into Woodhands later this night (packed to capacity).
Thursday - Saw Soulwax: Part of the Weekend Never Dies and M for Mississippi, both excellent documentaries. Then confined to Supermarket, which turned out to be quite awesome. 3 of the 5 bands were very surprisingly impressive: Axis of Conversation (bad name, great band), Elephant Stone, and Kill The Lights.
Friday - Some decent conferences; was surprised to learn that Robin Black isn't actually a douche off camera. Then back at Supermarket, i was quite underwhelmed by most of the bands, but they were incredibly nice people. Highlight of this night was probably Parlovr.
Saturday - Saw The Zoobombs at Dundas Square and they were amazing, so caught them again at Velvet Underground later that night. Followed by Spinnerette's surprise show at the Bovine Sex Club. Being 5 feet from two members of The Distillers in such a small venue was quite the experience, though Brody's performance didn't quite live up to my expectations.
I went out today and bought three albums: Alexisonfire's "Old Crows/Young Cardinals", Mars Volta's "Octahedron", and Spinerette's self-titled. Still on the first of those three, but I'm pleasantly surprised thus far with their follow-up to the mediocrity that was "Crisis."
I spend way too much money.
