Hi people, this is Oscar coming to you from sunny Peru. The weater is hot, the sun is glaring, the running water is infected, and after 4 o´clock there isn´t any! Paradise, eh?
I´ve started working in the surf school, its cool. I got so badly burnt on my first day of surf, that I could hardly walk, so there was no way I could teach really. Which sucked. The town I´m in by the way, is called Huanchaco. It´s about twenty minutes away from Peru´s third biggest city, Trujillo, where I and a few other volunteers went to see a punkrock gig last night, which was... interesting.
Its weird here, everyone is so chilled out, but when it comes to working, it kinda sucks, as everything is so disorganised, its not really clear what you´re meant to be doing. The guy I work for is called Juan Carlos. He´s the number 2 surfer in Peru, and is a pretty cool dude. He always takes me and Seb to good places for lunch (which can cost around 50p). The other day, we were taken to this backstreet cafe, owned by a homosexual shaman! The shamans here offer an alternative to scientific medicine, by using traditional methods, including animal sacrifce and hallucinogenic drugs. The people in Huanchaco are overall very superstitious and spiritual, so its understandable why that sort of thing happens alot.
At the moment, locked out of my home, so I thought I´d shove an update up. I´ll post some pictures up later, but right now, no time. Tell me how things are with you all?
Mucho love xx
