Good TVs.

Been watching The Wire via our Netflix subscription.  I know that I'm a million years behind on that one; I meant to watch it after a lot of my favourite actors from Oz moved there when that series finished, but it's hard to get excited about yet another police drama when there are a hojillion on TV, most of them forgettable.

Anyway, I'm glad I finally got around to watching it.  It's good.  The storylines are strong and I like a lot of the characters.  Although he has just small parts, I am especially enamored with Michael K. Williams' character Omar Little.  I'm not sure I'm supposed to like him so much since he is some kind of crazy sociopath, but he's just so damn charasmatic and witty and likeable.  Criminal or not, I'd invite that man over for dinner.  Apparently I'm not the only one since the character was supposed to be killed after just a few episodes, but they kept him on because of such strong reception.  The fictional character even has his own Wikipedia page!  He's definitely way up there on my list of awesome TV/movie characters.  As far as I'm concerned, the whole of season 1 is worth watching just for him.  He surfaces in later seasons, but his main storyline is in the first.

I poked around for other things that Williams is in (aside from music videos where he started), but mostly it looks like background characters like "Thug #3" or other small parts.  He was recently in The Road but I didn't see that.  We did catch him while channel surfing on some horrible TV show on BET but the writing was so bad we couldn't stomach it long enough to watch.  Kinda depressing since he's obviously a very fine actor.
