Decided to quit practicing self-censorship and write not for an audience but purely for the sake of safekeeping whatever precious memories and thoughts I might have.
The past week has been awful with the inclusion of merchant sales calls into my skills set, i.e. merchants using UOB terminals. I do not mind more work because I take it as a challenge but I have a major issue with half a day of poorly planned training, work flow that is not finalized and systems required for servicing that is not in place. It is so irksome to have my managers sending emails informing us to order take one minute and get customers to write-in the next. Hello, can we have some standards here! Though I don’t feel fantastically about my job, I do believe in a job well-done!
The one thing I missed most terribly is not being able to reply to JBEAT’s email circle and reading zen007 livejournal. My manager has remarked that I sound cheery over the phone, little does she know that it’s because I have read something very amusing that my dearest friends Erwin, Brandon, Troy and Jimi have wrote that caused the ‘smile’ in my voice, or just sweet words of encouragement, pure malicious bitching, planning visits to TC etc. It’s like this online group hug. *huggies*
Went down for our department chalet at Safra Changi and it is nice to see some of my ex-colleagues again. Turnover for call centers in general is high, 4 people have resigned since I joined in August, but I’m glad they have moved on and looking visibly happier, especially Shwu Ping who is enjoying her life as a tai-tai in Australia. Such a coincidence she is back in Singapore during this period and can make it for the chalet. She is the one who enlisted me to join SmilingVoices which is actually the activities committee for the center. Resented her for awhile as I felt that she left us in the lurch. There were only 4 of us in the committee and none of us had any prior experience in organizing company retreats, dinner & dance, quarterly birthday celebrations blah. It has been a good learning experience liaising with external agents (transport, caterers), event coordinators as we acquire contacts which might come useful for our personal use in future but budgeting and getting management’s approval or adhering to their schedule sucks!
Played mahjong with Darren, the ever smiley guy with the smallest eyes possible, Desmond, Micky’s husband who is kinda cute and Kurt, Emmeline’s husband who scared me initially as his demeanor is so SAF officer. Anyway, had great fun with the guys though I lost like $39. I had a “Qing Yi Se” “Zi Mo” during the first game but I was so stoned that I threw the tile out without realizing my mistake. So heart pain, must be all that smoke from the BBQ pit. Anyway, going to ballot for the same chalet cause it is pretty big and clean, a bowling alley just round the corner and the beach just at the doorstep. Anticipate loads of fun with my friends and not this with everybody leaving before 11pm and nobody staying the night. Pity.
It’s the first Saturday night that I’m home before 12 for a long long time. Looking forward to tomorrow’s outing at Sentosa with the guys but a little apprehensive that Erwin’s friends might be too glamorous and I might stick out like a sore thumb…
