Adventures in Wonderland

Back to Thursday.

After finishing my shift I headed to the gym to get my daily dose. Back to the room to get human again and then over to Killian for my EDCI Class.

This was a very interesting class. They passed out a lot of information and I discovered some things of note.

Because of my specific flavor of education, Middle Grades Math and Science, I don't have to take the PRAXIS II. And, as it turns out, since I have a bachelor's degree, I don't have to take the PRAXIS I either! Good news!

I got to turn in my schedule for availability for my 16 hours of observation. I requested a diverse school and offered up my Tuesdays and Thursdays. Should hear back on that in a couple of weeks. It would be nice to be placed in Asheville, but we'll see...

They also spoke of this online thing I need to subscribe to and submit my autobiography to as well. That, should I complete it, will make me eligible to schedule an interview to get into the education program. Should that not occur, I'll have to wait another semester before I can interview again. Since not passing the interview would bar me from taking any education courses next semester, this is rather important!

The class looks to be fairly interesting. Haven't dove into the text books yet but I will soon enough.

After class I headed back to the dorm for a thrilling hall meeting. Yee & haw. Still it was the responsible thing to do however unexciting it might have been. After that I actually got to sleep at a decent hour and got some shut eye.

Friday: A Day of Running Around.

Got up bright and early, enjoyed the hot water while it lasted, and hit the UC for breakfast. Over to Stillwell and geology fun. Then back F320- I had a shift to work and I read some biology. What I lacked in quantity I made up for in quality- this stuff actually makes a little since to me. From there, after my shift, I headed back to Stillwell for my biology class proper. Then the fun began.

Flew back to the dorm to change, then to the gym. From there I slid through Dotson to get my sushi fix, then back to the dorm to get clean and presentable. Got all my stuff for the retreat packed and dragged it up to Presby in the rain. Reclaimed my 'brella from the car and headed to the infirmary.

My left foot had been hurting for several weeks now so I figured- hey, why not let a doctor look at it? He's paid for. So I did.

He whipped out a razor blade and did some trimming on my foot. And, lemmie tell you, it feels 10,000% better than it did! It is so nice to be able to walk with some vague semblance of normalcy again. I ran into Karen White on the way out and told her I'd be looking her up in a couple of weeks once my schedule settled down.

Headed to Presby then. Sam scooped me up with a drive by and we swung by the dorm to grab the 'tar. To Presby- we got loaded up, I was trapped to pray for traveling mercies et al, and we actually got out of there awfully close to the scheduled time of 4pm. On our way!

An uneventful trip. I sought sleep but never quite found it. We got to Grier, unloaded in the rain, and got settled in. Let the Chillin' Retreat begin!

Well, there was plenty of UNO, Worst Case Scenario, and candy to go around. The stove had issues so our vegetarian stew took a little longer than planned but was excellent when it finally arrived. Perhaps hunger is the best cook, but I'd also postulate Hannah's nutrition classes are not all for naught.

Being Grier the stove wasn't the only issue. The furnace had problem's as well and resisted every attempt by the camp staff to repair. Still, the cabin was pleasantly warm so we decided, as everything had been unpacked and spread out, to stick it out. I would regret that decision.

Around 11 most of the crowd- Sam'l, Samantha, Melissa, Susanne, Hannah, and Daniel decided to head out and stargaze. Big Sam and I stayed behind to watch the fire. They returned and, after an hour or so of details and prep for the following day, finally settled down to sleep. I myself drifted off...

For about two hours. After that it got so cold that it woke me up. I spent about three hours shivering and finally decided to give up and sit in front of the fire. Which was reasonably warm, it just kept dying down throughout the night. And there I stayed as the sun rose and toasted myself until breakfast was served. Which was also quite tasty.

Morning drifted into afternoon. Some stayed in the cabin, some split off on walks, and some lost their shoe to the muddy (and waterless) lake bottom. I packed up, grabbed some lunch, then Big Sam and I headed back to Campus. We drove through some dusted mountains but, other than high winds, never really had any issues with the inclement weather. We came to Grier for the snow- which of course fell in Cullowhee while we were gone.

I got back and, after unloading and changing, headed over to the gym. Got back, got human again, and headed over to Ramsey. There was this double header there...

gym, wcu infirmary, prayer, edci, snow, samantha neff, sam'l hale, melissa nichols, rev. hale, presby, retreats, hannah jones, camp fires, karen white, suzanne girod, guitar, daniel fielder, sushi, camp grier
