80's Music Video Observations

May 14, 2009 21:54

I'm putting together the 80's video playlist that will play in the background of Coley's 80's themed birthday Pants Off Dance Off II and made some observations of a few of the videos.

Hewey Louis makes a Zoolander-like Magnum Steel face at the beginning of the Hip to be Square video.

One of the coolest things ever in a video is when the sidewalk lights up under Michael Jackson in the Billie Jean vid.

The shack where Bryan Adams plays in the Summer of 69 video looks like the thousand similar shacks you come across in the Halflife 2 video game series. Makes me want to blast the corrugated steel off the roof with the gravity gun.

Huey Lewis' Workin for a Livin is funny because it's almost like working for a living is a rare thing. How else would someone get by?

Olivia Newton John basically abuses the overweight actors in her video for Physical. During a montage (which is always used to show time passing as explained by Team America: World Police) where Olivia takes a sensual, fully clothed shower, the actors become fit and she treats them nicer. Pretty superficial and shallow. The guys end up leaving the room in pairs holding hands or with their arms around each other. Guess she turned them gay from her abuse? She ends up with an overweight guy who walks in at the end. I guess there is a lesson to be learned here, but what??

All the girls in 80's vids were very buxom, probably heavily influenced by Playboy.

Today's fashions have very much returned to 80's styles. For example, J. Giles looks very Indie/Emo in the Centerfold video. Also, Aviator glasses and Wayfarer sunglasses are back in style now.
