[sits next to Max with a book, a pen, and a notebook. He gives Max a smile as he opens his book.] Can I join ya?

[maxthemonkey]

[finishes his word and looks up] Yup.

[looks at his next letter and makes a face]

[garrett_cain]

Thanks. [pauses for a moment] I'm gonna get some coffee. Do you want somethin' to drink?

[maxthemonkey]

[leans to see how much juice is in his cup] I still have juice. [smirks] But I think I need a cookie.

[garrett_cain]

[nods] You know, that sounds like a good idea. I'll get a cookie for me, too. [he gets up from the table and then moves into the kitchen. He returns a few minutes later with cookies and a cup of coffee.] Here you go, kiddo.

[maxthemonkey]

[sing-songs] Thank you very much.

[looks at his paper again, the line still blank]

[garrett_cain]

You're welcome!

[sees him stare at his paper] What you workin' on?

[maxthemonkey]

[sighs and leans on his palm] I gotta make a list of words.[makes a face and eyes Garrett] My teacher said we gotta think of the words all by... or- [stumbles slightly on the word] -ur-self. But I can not think of a word.

[garrett_cain]

Are they just any words? [takes a sip of his coffee]

[maxthemonkey]

[nods] They have to be Council words, so it is fair for ev-erybody. [Thankfully, there are a lot of words in the Council dictionary] It can not be names. [shakes his head] So I can not write my name for the Emmmm. But I can not think of some of them. So I picked a diff-fernent letter and did them 'til I couldn't not think of a-nother one.

[he's made it through L, so far, skipping I and K]

[nods when Max finishes] What 'bout using a dictionary?

[maxthemonkey]

[stares at Garrett] What is that word?

[garrett_cain]

A dictionary is a book that has words and their definitions...what the word means.

[maxthemonkey]

[eyes go wide in amazement and interest; he didn't know there was such a thing]

[shakes his head, after a moment] I can not do this. My teacher said I gotta think of the words by my-self.

[but he's going to remember about this dic-nary the next time Mommy takes him to the book shop]

Okay, well do the best you can. [he gives Max a smile]
