[raises an eyebrow] You chasing guys away from Leora already?

[garrett_cain]

For their protection, yes. [smirks]

[cj_cain]

[laughs] You and Scott put her and Diz in the same room, that's on you. [shakes his head]

[garrett_cain]

Yeah, well... [snorts] it's like releasing Hilary and El in the world at the same time.

[cj_cain]

[fights a grin] That was a horrible morning. [nods] I knew it was going to happen, but I didn't know when. [glances down and makes a face] I thought about stopping them, but I knew if I didn't.... [takes a breath and glances at Ruby Creek] Could I? Yes. Would I? Knowing what I know now? ... [shrugs] Should I? That was a big one. Should I say something? Should I warn someone? Should I stick my fingers in my ears and hum? [takes another deep breath]

I knew everything that was going to happen. Well [nods] not everything. But enough.

[he knows he did what he had to do... but that doesn't always help him sleep at night]

[garrett_cain]

[listens for any hint of what CJ's talking about] Is this somethin' I should know 'bout?

[cj_cain]

[shakes his head] Sorry.. I forget you weren't there, the whole time. [smiles] El and Hilary, in same room. It was the first time things really started to criss-cross. Mom, El, and Hilary, in the same room, at the same time. [remembers the look on El's face when she realized when she was]

[garrett_cain]

[snorts] That must have been interesting.

[cj_cain]

[snorts] Well, it ended up with Hilary getting shot, so.... [shrugs]

[garrett_cain]

[raises his brows] Shot? Was that when she was possessed?

[cj_cain]

[shakes his head] No. This was before she'd even been to the Zone. I'm not even sure she was married to Jeff and Scott, yet. [glances at the sky, trying to remember; laughs] I'm starting to really understand why it's so hard for Mom to remember anything, most of the time.

No, wait, they were. [nods] Because that's when we found out Hilary was pregnant with Diz. Chapel told them up on the ship, after she was out of surgery.

[garrett_cain]

[he nods] So, what happened? What led to Hilary gettin' shot?

[cj_cain]

Gaufri was hunting her down, because she was shipping and selling contraband all over the galaxy. He found her at the Mirage, of all places. [he pauses and shakes his head] Still not sure how any of them flew in to limbo, but whatever. And during the interrogation, El's second slipped up and everyone realized he was the one selling stuff.

Hilary and Jeff walked in as he was trying to escape, and he used the confusion of Jeff and Gaufri looking alike to try and escape. When that didn't work, he put a bullet in Hilary's shoulder and El put one between his eyes. [shrugs] And that is how Massey got promoted.

[garrett_cain]

Oh...[his brows crease] But, wasn't Gaufri possessed by Zero when all that mess happened in the cave or has that been changed now, too?

[cj_cain]

He wasn't possessed. At least I don't think he was. [he frowns and glances down] None of us noticed it when we were around him. [shakes his head] I don't know that there ever was a real Gaufri. Mom told me once that she was glad when Max started to forget him. Though [nods to him] I think Lurline might have helped with that.

[garrett_cain]

Knowing her, she probably did. [sighs]
