Title: it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird
Characters: Juliet, Ben
Rating: PG-13
Words: 398
Summary: In the beginning she felt sorry for Benjamin Linus.
A/N: For former Queen knopflergroupie who asked for antagonism. A teansy bit of Dharma Days snuck in at the end, I hope you don’t mind. <3

She didn’t always hate him.

In the beginning she felt sorry for Benjamin Linus. He was doting and nebbish, harmless---or so she thought. Then the first woman died and Juliet stumbled from the operating room in blood soaked scrubs, hands shaking to deliver the news.

The husband cracked immediately, sank to the nearest chair and sobbed into his hands, but Ben didn’t blink.

“Thank you, Juliet,” he said, his voice cold, emotionless.

That’s when she began to suspect he was a monster.

*

Later she asked him to let her go.

(Once, twice, a dozen times, over and over until the words became meaningless to both of them.)

He said no. He said you have work to do.

He said you’re mine.

She said nothing, nothing but go to hell.

*

She liked to believe that she was not a murderer, but there was too much blood on her hands to ignore, one more life wouldn’t make much of a difference.

So she started planning Ben’s death.

And then a surgeon fell from the sky and everything snapped into place.

*

The day she made the cards, the smell of the marker made her dizzy.

She cracked a window and returned to carefully writing out her plot on crisp white pieces of poster board. Her hands did not shake.

*

She watches Jack watching her through the glass and prays he’s as desperate as she his.

He could be the end of her.

Not that there’s much left to end.

“Turn it off,” he hisses.

So she does.

*

She wheels Ben around in his chair and tries not to wince every time his hand brushes hers.

He knows what she tried to do.

There’s a mark on her back to remind her of her sins.

“It’s a beautiful day,” he says lightly.

Her grip tightens on the handles of his chair, nails digging into her palms.

*

He gives her a gas mask.

He gives her a mission.

She says nothing, nothing but okay.

Inside she says, fuck you.

*

She sneaks into Jack’s tent and tells him everything, promises she’s done being Ben’s lackey.

“I hate him,” she whispers.

Jack nods and she knows he believes.

*

It’s 1977 and he’s a kid with a bullet in his chest.

She thinks of leaving it there.

But only for a second.

He’s the only monster in this room.

Title: The Quiet Man
Characters: Ana, Eko
Rating: PG-13
Words: 238
Summary: Ana can’t sleep, so she seeks out the only quiet thing on this godforsaken rock.
A/N: For former Queen volcanicpwnage who asked for the tailies.

The jungle is alive at night, humming with sounds.

Ana can’t sleep, so she seeks out the only quiet thing on this godforsaken rock.

Eko sits carving verses into his stick, trusting his hands to do the work his eyes can’t in this darkness.

“You’re running out of room,” Ana says.

Eko just smiles.

She wishes the son of bitch would talk every now and then. They’ve got a man in a pit and they’re losing people by the day now, dwindling down into nothing. Ana doesn’t want that to be her fault. That’s too many lives in her hands and she’s done with that shit. Has been for a long time now. She wants to share the burden with someone she actually trusts.

Just her luck the cat seems to have run off with his tongue with no plans on coming back.

“Am I fucking up, keeping that kid down there?”

Eko says nothing, but he sets his stick aside and pulls Ana towards his lap. She sighs gratefully and stretches out on the cold ground; her head comes to rest on his legs. She stares up at the sky until she can’t stomach the sight of it anymore, then she closes her eyes.

Eko runs a hand through her hair.

“That’s not an answer,” she mutters.

He laughs softly, the sound instantly lost in the noise of frogs and crickets, just another echo in the night.

Title: Dog Days Are Over
Pairing: Cindy/Lennon
Rating: PG-13
Words: 320
Summary: She holds his hand, lets him pull her along through the darkness.
A/N: For former Queen cloudytea who asked for The Temple folk. Title shamelessly stolen from Florence & the Machine.

Lennon takes her to the spring on hot, summer nights. They sneak away from The Temple when they’re sure the others are asleep, Lennon leading her through the jungle as if he knows every inch of it by heart.

She holds his hand, lets him pull her along through the darkness.

Summer on the island is long and humid. Cindy never feels comfortable, her clothes always clinging to her sweat soaked skin. Lennon understands.

“I used to live in Boston,” he says.

It’s such a shock to think of him on a city street. She forgets sometimes that they all had lives before.

“I miss the winter.”

She misses the dry heat of Australia, but she doesn’t say it. She’s still new, still learning this place. It’s best not to mention the things she’s given up.

Lennon strips down to his underwear. This embarrassed Cindy the first time. But by now she knows his body as well as he knows this jungle. She discards her clothes as well and dives into the cold water, laughing as he splashes her.

He hushes her with his lips. A reminder that they’re not alone here, not safe.

It’s a risk, coming to this place alone in the middle of the night.

“What if Dogen finds out?” Cindy whispers against his ear.

Lennon smiles.

“He knows.”

Of course he does. He knows everything. That’s something else she forgets.

“And he doesn’t mind?”

Lennon chuckles and wraps his legs around Cindy’s under the water.

“Of course he minds.”

But Lennon doesn’t care. He’s so obedient, so good. Knowing this small act of defiance is for her makes Cindy shiver.

Later they sit by the edge of the spring and watch as the sky begins to turn pink. They’ll have to go back soon. Cindy rests her head on his shoulder.

“It’s winter now where I’m from,” she whispers.

Lennon presses a kiss to her forehead.

“I know.”
