Every now and then he says something stupid that reminds her that he wasn’t always good ole Jim La Fleur , and she’ll cross her arms and stare at him like he’s still the son of a bitch he used to be.
He can’t stand to see that look on her face. Sometimes he thinks maybe she’s just waiting for him to walk out that door. It ain’t like she hasn’t been left before and he’s sure as hell done his share of leaving.
But then he’ll grin and say, I still got your back, Blondie.
And that’s a reminder too, a reminder that he’s not going anywhere.
