He sees her hiding amongst the trees; a flash of blonde hair, the sudden glint of blue eyes.
She’s alive, he thinks.
He doesn’t tell the others.
He leaves the camp in the middle of the night and makes his way to what’s left of the Swan site. He finds her sitting on the edge of the crater.
“Juliet?”
He says her name like a prayer.
He kneels beside her, pulling her against his chest.
“You’re alive,” he mutters over and over until his lips find hers.
She tastes wrong. Dead, he thinks.
“You’re not her,” he growls.
The thing beside him tilts its head back and laughs.
