Dear yuletide writer...
Dear Yuletide author,
Hi! <3 I’d like to start off by saying that you are amazing and clearly have flawless taste in fandoms. I am so excited to get fic for any of these fandoms, so you seriously don’t need to stress. The one good thing about me is I’m ridiculously easy to please.
In that spirit, please don’t fret too much about my prompts, if nothing below pings with you, by all means follow your muse. I’m of the firm belief that a fic that someone wants to write always comes out better than one they’re trying to force themselves to write. Follow your plotbunnies wherever they may lead, is what I’m saying. I know some guidance is helpful though (yuletide panic, I’ve been there), so below I’ve listed a few fandom-specific prompts and my likes/dislikes for your perusal. Before we get into all of that though: thank you in advance for writing a fic for me during this crazy busy time of year. Whatever you write, I’m going to love.
Stuff I Like
I like friendships and platonic life partners, but romance is good too (great actually-friends falling in love is always relevant to my interests). Pining and unrequited love are always a hit (as is unrequited love that ultimately becomes requited). I like banter and gallows humor and well, all humor really. I love female characters, and seeing them get their due. Dudes are awesome too though, don’t get me wrong, I just didn’t request many of them this year (but if you want to write a Kasper epic, dude, go for it, I will read that and cherish it forever). Scars (I have such a scar kink).
Adventure stories, slice of life stories, introspective character studies, spookiness, gooey romances, and dark, complicated adult relationships-all good. Travel themes make me happy too. I don’t have a preference between angst and fluff though, I like both equally. I like fics that manage to fall somewhere in between even better. Stuff I Don’t Like So Much
Noncon. Dubcon. Crackiness (genderswapping, mpreg, etc.). Kinky sex (sex is awesome and feel free to include it, but I’m pretty vanilla, if you start including accessories and what not, I’m just going to turn red and have to bail). Character/Ship bashing. Complete AU scenarios (everyone's on a space ship!, etc.).
Fandoms
Borgen (Katrine, Kasper, Hanne, Birgitte)
Katrine is my life hero. I love her drive and her unwavering dedication. Her passion for journalism does ridiculous things to my heart. She is this beautiful, flawed, ultra-competent lady and I will take any fic for her. Seriously, it can be work related with Katrine delving into some huge story, it can be set between s1 and s2 when she was in Afghanistan, pre-series-seriously anything.
I’m very intrigued by the way she interacts with Hanne. They have this friend/rival/mentor dynamic that I totally dig, so feel free to explore that relationship from either POV. If you matched with me on Hanne only and want to focus exclusively on her, that will be awesome too. She’s a lady with a lot of stories and we never see enough of her on the show. I would also not be opposed to a fic that involved Birgitte and Katrine or Birgette and Hanne. Seeing those awesome ladies interacting with each other is basically my favorite thing ever.
Finally, we have Kasper. I’ll admit it; I ship Kasper/Katrine like burning. I strongly believe that they get each other on a level that no one else can. The way they challenge each other and hurt each other, but also always come back to each other is mesmerizing. I’d love a fic set pre-series before their breakup, but literally any time period will do. Kasper/Birgitte either platonic or as casual sex buddies would also work for me. (Ooh, or Kasper/Hanne…seriously, just put any combination of these characters together and I’ll be happy.)
Like I said above, if you have your heart set on writing a Kasper epic that’s totally cool. My only request is that it not be set during the time he was being abused at home because the subject matter destroys me-you can definitely touch on it, but please nothing explicit.
Mockingbird Lane
I loved the Mockingbird Lane pilot so much I had to change my sign up to include it. I just really want to read something set in this universe. I will admit I’m most interested in Herman, Eddie, and Marilyn. I’d love to hear how Herman ended up needing to be reconstructed and how being made of so many other people has changed him.
Likewise, anything that concerns the father/son dynamic between Eddie and Herman would be perfect because those two seriously did things to my heart.
Then there’s Marilyn, who was just so self-assured and take charge that I instantly loved her. What was it like for her growing up? How does she relate to the rest of the family? Does she resent her mom for wanting to eat her? Inquiring minds need to know.
However, if you’re more into Grandpa or Lily or even the neighbor next door (who is totally the same character who showed up on Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls, so she knows weird when she sees it), then go for it. This corner of the Fuller verse is just begging to be expanded on.
Call the Midwife (Chummy)
Chummy is the greatest, is she not? I don’t even know what direction to give here. If you write me Chummy fic, you are already my favorite person. Umm…maybe you could give a bit of insight into her backstory? I’m curious about her time in India, in particular because that feels like it was a formative experience for her.
I’d also be happy with Chummy friendship fic with any of the other girls or the nuns. Shipping wise, I love Chummy/Peter because they are adorable and I’m not made of stone, but I also really dig the idea of Chummy/Doctor Turner. I mean his face when she delivered that breech baby? That was the face of a smitten man if ever I saw one.
(Also, I’m writing this before the first season finale, which I won’t see for a few more days, but if Chummy does take her vows like the promo alluded, I’d be all over a fic delving into that angstiness-especially if she ultimately breaks those vows for some reason because that’s an ironclad kink of mine.)
Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings
I’ve never requested a music video before, but this video was so moody and atmospheric I couldn’t resist. Audrey Plaza is brilliant. As for what kind of fic I want? I have no direction to offer. As long as it captures the spirit of the video, I’m happy.
(I am particularly curious about the nature of what Audrey’s character is though- is she a werewolf? Zombie? Vampire? Just wildly unstable and awesome?)
Okay, I think I’ve rambled enough. Like I said above, if none of these prompts work for you, throw these suckers out of the window. I want this be as stress-free and fun for you as possible. I pinky-swear that whatever you come up with is going to make me deliriously happy. Happy Yuletide!
