I Love TV

This is the least ragey I’ve been post-Emmys in years. Did everyone I want to win, win this year? No, but for once it didn’t matter so much. There was a proper host (my god NPH, you make me want to be a gay man just so I could pretend to have a shot with you), no one was forced to cut their speech short, and you know it was for the most part fun to watch. Thoughts under the cut.

*Highlight of the night: Kristen Chenoweth wins best supporting actress. Suck it ABC. You can cancel my happy pie show and banish its final episodes to the Saturday night deathslot but damnit you can not keep Olive Snook down. Yeah, I cried. A lot.

*Highlight #2: Michael Emerson. That guy is such a class act and it was so nice to see someone from Lost on that stage. And although I’m still a bit bitter that Davies didn’t get a nod, I can’t complain about Emerson winning because the man is a brilliant performer. You know I don’t talk about Ben much or write fic about him, but it’s not because the character doesn’t interest me. It’s that Ben is the one character I’m completely happy to just watch unfold onscreen and that’s thanks to Emerson’s incredible work.

* Dr. Horrible interlude! Joss Whedon I am so proud of you. You guys saw his speech at the creative Emmys right? My journal title /subtitle have been changed in his honor.

* Have I mentioned how awesome NPH was? My favorite bit had to be the post-win interview with Jon Cryer. It should have been Neil ---or McBrayer (I have to support my fellow Georgians)! But damn that man can lose with style.

* MAD MEN. Enough said.

* I thought 30 Rock was wildly uneven this year, but I loved Tina Fey’s acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank NBC for keeping us on the air even though we are more expensive than a talk show.”

* Things that sucked: Jim Parsons should have won best actor. Elisabeth Moss should have won best actress and I’m sure Breaking Bad is a very good show, but Michael C. Hall needs to win one of these days. Emmy voters, if you keep ignoring Dexter you’re going to meet his dark passenger and trust me he’s not so nice.

* Ricky Gervais and Jimmy Fallon were hilarious. Bob Newhart not so much.

* Please stop letting people sing during the in memoriam. It’s distracting.

* You had to show the well scene? Seriously? I did not need to randomly burst into tears during the drama montage CBS.

I also watched Mad Men last night. My non-spoilery reaction: I really want Lost to win best drama next year because it’s the last year and I love the show more than air, but if Mad Men keeps this up Lost is screwed. Seriously, the Mad Men folks can’t even produce a mediocre episode let alone a bad one. It’s almost not fair.

Secondly, I know this sounds a little crazy given the caliber of actor on Mad Men but am I the only one who thinks the little girl playing Sally Draper stands a real chance at getting a best supporting actress nod next year? She’s been more than holding her on this season; she’s actually stealing every scene she’s in and breaking my heart in the process.

Oh Emmys, you just ended and I’m already thinking about next year.
