throw the first stone
i haven't updated in forever, so i might as well start somewhere. last week was spring break, but i don't feel like talking about it too much since, you know, it's over. i took jenn home with me for the week, introduced her to my parents, quickly showed her around town, jogged up to new york (by bus), jogged back two days later having visited my grandmother and sort of crazy uncle, and finally spent a day and a half at home before driving back down to maryland.
i got back to virginia on monday morning. i was pretty miserable after the drive on sunday, but when i pulled into the lot behind my apartment, it was hot and sunny, so i felt lethargic on top of my already-oppressive lethargy. i had to go to two classes that day; ergo, i was not a happy camper. fortunately, i managed to get some sleep that night.
i think i'm almost back in action, though. i had lots of work to catch up on. over break, i was supposed to read something like 4 books, but i spent most of the time reading just one for my turn-of-the-century class. it's a monstrosity of a play by karl kraus, who was a really cool dude, but wrote a monstrous play that i'm probably going to write about for my term paper. in any event, the play is like 700 pages long and is basically about WWI and its coverage in the media. and it's called "the last days of humanity". yikes.
but none of that is really too interesting. i'm sort of tired of school and want it to stop. i'm beginning to really understand what it is to be taking four seminars this semester. it's like academic hazing, and i can't say that i enjoy every minute of it. i am learning a lot, but i just wish i didn't have to rush everything... whatever. after this semester, i'll never take this many classes at once ever again!

*i got a new shaver while i was home that actually gets the job done. yesssss.
*i'm going to see ted leo next weekend?!?!?!
*i brought my guitar back with me, so i can perform comic operettas for myself anytime i want - whatever that means
*i went shopping last night and bought a BRICK of tofu. that's right, i said it. TOFU.
*i finally figured out how to use the megaphone that gerrit and christina bought on ebay for our band that never got started. but hey, free megaphone!!! if anyone needs to yell anything really loudly without straining their voice, let me know!!!
*my friend greysox contacted me today via email after months of being incommunicado! congratulations!!!
*les savy fav are coming to play in c'ville, sponsored by university programs council. fuckin' a! i'm already super stoked, and i think i'm even more excited by this than the fact that wilco are also coming next month
*jenn's brother, drew, made me a mix cd which has lots and lots and lots of synthpop on it. also, there are two songs on there that daft punk and stardust sampled for "robot rock" and "music sounds better with you", respectively. rock!

*readin' some sweet, sweet bakhtinian narrative theory
*readin' some other books, maybe working on paper plans
*possibly seeing the falsies at miller's
