On photography and marketing.

I consider myself a half decent photographer at the best of times and a competent photographer at the worst. However one thing I usually don't do is pimp my photography much to people who don't know me. I think this comes from, well I honestly don't know. It could be that I don't want to harass people, that I don't want to come off all needy saying things like "please comment on my photo" or "tell me how good I am?"

I suppose I like to see my work stand on its own, if it's good enough people will find it and comment on it if it impresses them enough to want to comment. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. With the amount of work out there on the Internet at the moment trying to get noticed is like throwing a dart at a dart board but the dart board size is 10 x 10 m square and you're a 1 x 1 cm square. In other words it is very hard to get noticed out there.

So here I am debating with myself about how I'm going to market myself, get myself out there and actually do more photography for the year. Well the idea for doing more photos is that the 365 project, something I usually try to do every year, although last year I didn't even start. It basically taking, editing and posting one photo a day for 365 daysI a daunting task but something which I will enjoy and hopefully get me more in a photo taken because last year I only did maybe 20 to 30 photo shoots, and that's not that many when you think about it. But I do hope this will work out me.

The other thing I am doing is actually commenting on other peoples photos, normally I wouldn't do this because what comments people normally get are not that helpful. So what I am doing is I have a program called Dragon naturally speaking pro installed on my computer. I have mild dyslexia and I have problems typing out on the computer sometimes so what I am doing is speaking my comments and letting Dragon typed it out for me so I can leave meaningful and hopefully helpful comments on peoples work and in the long run they will look and hopefully leave a comment of mine.

It's a small thing and it may or may not work but I do need to be more active in that I hope this does. In the meantime I look the red bubble and eventually own consultant to my Flickr and just leaving comments good comments add comments anyone who knows me knows I am a highly critical person and to get a well done from me is a very big thing.

First day back at work tomorrow Sydney looking forward to it I have enjoyed my days off I want more than I would have expected but it also means that I can have more opportunities to take photos.
