Raisin In The Sun is a play in the life of the an African-American family, the Youngers, living in Chicago in the 1950s. They are dealt with many obstacles. Different obstacles for all characters. The main characters that seem to have problems are Lena Younger, Walter Lee Younger, Ruth Younger, and Beneatha Younger. Lena Younger's husband has passed away and the family is about to receive a $10,000 check. They all don't know what to do with the check, themselves, and are very confused. With the next three paragraphs I will discuss their problems and how they were able to handle them. Hopefully, they were all able to make the right choices.
Beneatha Younger is the sister of Walter Lee Younger and daughter of Lena Younger. She is an intellectual and twenty years old attending college. Throughout the play, she searches for her own identity. She dates two different men: Asagai and George. Beneatha seems to be sad and angry with George. George is rich and has a lot of money. He treats as if she doesn't have many right just because she is a women. And Beneatha is a young, independent feminist. With that, they seems to clash- a lot. Yet, when she is with Asagai, she is happiest. He seems to have a positive effect on her. They always have intellectual conversations and she learns a lot about his home, Africa. He treats her with equality and respect. By the end of the play, Asagai asks for her hand in marriage and to move to Africa with him. She gives no response. Therefore, she is very confused on what to do and who to date.
Walter Lee Younger is the son of Lena Younger. Walter is a dreamer. He wants to become rich and wants to invest in a Liquor Store with his father's insurance money. He is too preoccupied to realize that he is neglecting his wife. Throughout the play, he is focused on making his dream come true. But going too far, he loses the money that belongs to him and his sister, Beneatha. He soon turns to drinking to take the pain away.
Ruth Younger is the wife of Walter Lee Younger. They have been married for many years. Most of the time they seem to be happy. Keeping their marriage young and exciting. But lately, Walter is too focused on getting his Liquor Store. He seems to be drinking way more than he used to. Ruth has a secret that she cannot keep from Walter. She is pregnant and is thinking about getting an abortion. Ruth believes that having another child will just be another burden to the family and they are not finacially stable. Yet, Walter has no reaction to her decision about her getting an abortion.

In the end of the play, unfortunately, Beneatha, Walter and Ruth have not accomplished anything. Beneatha doesn't know where to stay. Walter has his money stolen from him, making his family angered. And Ruth is stuck between having a child, or ending it's life. Mama bought a house in Clybourne Park where many rich people live
