ANZAC Day 2009

Apr 25, 2009 06:56

I watched this morning's national broadcast (ad free) of the service the kids and I would go to if it wasn't getting so big... the Dawn Service at Elephant Rock, Currumbin Beach. Led by Ron Workman (president of the Currumbin RSL, and organiser of the event) it was again a moving and beautiful service. It included the songs I've linked to in Twitter (and inserted below I hope) along with a flypass of 3 Stinson aircraft (from WW2), a scattering of the ashes of a recently passed Digger by the surf boats, who adopted the oar positioning of the ancient Vikings during a similar ceremony (all bar one upright, that one laid across the gunwhales of the boat to represent the fallen comrade), and the laying of wreaths, including one by the widow of a soldier just recently killed in Afghanistan.

Lest we forget.
