Chicago Pics - Part 2

I adore water features, luckily for me, Chicago offered plenty. Some of them were better than others, but I'll let you be the judge.

In this set of photos, you will get more of an insight into Chicago, the City, its architecture and its beauty.

WARNING: Image heavy. Sorry.

This was the first of many fountains we saw in Chicago. Not the best one we saw, but still pretty!

Near that fountain were some decorative benches.

I liked this.

Our first day in Chicago was a hot one. I do not know how hot, but after only a couple of hours, we were dehydrated, tired and grumpy. We had a lot to fit in that day, but the weather made us both irritable. It wasn't a great start to the day. But, out of the blue as we were waiting to cross a road, we heard splashes of water and our ears pricked up. Water!!! We changed direction immediately and stumbled upon this amazing, amazing water feature. It was soooooooo awesome- in fact, looking back and given the circumstances, it was THE moment of the trip, that one unforgettable moment. Re-energized we changed direction and raced over the road.

I couldn't help myself and went for a splish splash!

And then I thought, what the heck, I'm so going under. Fully clothed!

Ken wasn't so keen to follow, but after he saw how much fun I had and how refreshed I looked, he could not help himself!

Aside from being a brilliant place to get wet, the fountain is also a piece of art, projecting the faces of everyday Chicagoean's on it's exterior.

Buckingham Fountain. I cannot begin to tell you how beautiful it looked in real life. This photo does not do it justice.

Stork Fountain in suburban Chicago

Random City Fountain

Fountain by the river. One of the more spectacular modern fountains in Chicago.

It has a cannon that shoots water across the river on the hour. It's really quite spectacular.

The Chicago River flows through the city. The Chicago people love their river and its' the focal point of the construction that goes on around it. This building for example was designed using materials that would reflect the river. It's an award winning design.

One of the top tourist attractions to do in Chicago is to take an architecture river cruise. We did one on our last day in Chicago. Two blissful hours in the sun taking in a gorgeous city.

Phew! I know you're exhausted, but almost there. The fun stuff is at Part 3.
