He never thought it would work. Thinking it would spell disaster, he had screamed ‘No!’ over and over in his mind. But Chris was family (his brother) who’d given up so much for him and is the main reason Elliot had a career and family. Chris rescued him from a life of crime and prison. The life Chris lived now.
All he had asked in return was for Elliot to look out for Toby, the man he loved. Elliot and Toby’s relationship had gotten off to a bumpy start. Elliot insulted the man the first day, referring to Toby as Chris’ ‘prison wife’ and Toby put him in his place, the both of them nearly coming to blows. However, El soon learned that Toby was tough and smart and he loved Chris as much as Chris loved Toby.
That love and Toby’s knowledge of Chris helped Elliot accept him and feel closer to the brother he’d spent very little time with over the years. Elliot stopped resenting the favor Chris had asked of him. Nevertheless, he was beginning to regret agreeing to it because Toby’s friendship was beginning to mean too much, making Elliot feel he was betraying Chris somehow.
