2004 / 2010
Mum's birthday is this Friday, April 30. I realised last night that her birthday was a Friday the year she died (2004). I had travelled to Warragul to see her. We had pizza for dinner. She was so sick with the chemo. I said to her that I hoped to see her next time after she'd had a week off from the chemo and that she might be feeling better. I had to rush off to catch the train. The train/airline schedules were hopeless! There were four hours in Melbourne. Time (in retrospect) that I could have spent with Mum.
She died the following Saturday (8th May). Steve and I were out at the cinema seeing "Van Helsing". We came home to a phone message from Mum's upstairs neighbour. Then the police called around to formally inform us. I have a new respect for Community Policing.
I'm not normally maudlin about these things. I try to be realistic and positive. But since Amelia was born it's been so hard. I've missed Mum a lot. It's that little bit harder now that Amelia's cousin has come along and Steve's sister has her own mother to help her. I try not to compare, but it's right there in my face.
I finally faxed the details of Mum's plaque to the Warragul Cemetery Trust. Maybe by next year she will have a proper grave marker. That would be nice.
