"It's okay, Cyril. You have another nightmare?"
Cyril nodded but didn't turn from looking out into the dark.
"Was it the same one?" Ryan asked because he was supposed to, but he already knew, and he really didn't want to hear it again.
Cyril shrugged and, relieved, Ryan let it go.
He'd been having the same dream over and over the past few weeks:
Cyril is in the back seat of Preston Nathan's car, wire around the man's neck, head turned so he can't see the eyes. But when he looks out the window, he sees Gloria Nathan there, her face a mask of horror. ("Her eyes were big and her mouth was open and I think she was screaming," was how Cyril described it.) And then the wire slices all the way through Nathan's neck and his head falls off, falls back onto Cyril's lap - at which point Cyril would mercifully wake up.
Ryan scrubbed his hands over his face and tiredly watched his brother. Things weren’t turning out like he had hoped, not yet, but when Gloria came around and realized her love for him, this would all be worth it.
