The youth of today are so utterly beautiful and so utterly false. They're like paper cut-outs, all in color, head-to-toe sparkle and shine.

When I speak of beauty, I speak in a general sense. They've mastered the art of feigning kindness, concern, and friendship. But none of it is real. When you get to the nitty-gritty, they are their world, and everyone else is an accessory.

The youth of today are fading. The more they try to make themselves visible, the more they disappear. They are an amalgamation of empty individualism, like gaudy neon colors, each trying to have its say, to be important, to be noticed.

It's sad and alarming that the youth are driving this culture. We've thrust them onto a pedestal. We've copied their habits. We live vicariously through them. We want our significance back.

How stupid we've all become. All the rich experiences that come from life, from loss. The lessons you learn when fate slaps you sideways and steals the floor out from under your feet, how you adapt, how you cope, how you grow. We trade all this in for the *wisdom* and glitter of youth, which offers no wisdom at all, merely self-entitled narcissism.

We forget history. We lose perspective. We think the world could not have possibly existed beyond our awareness. We dishonor our parents. We dishonor our elderly. We worship the new and shiny. We do this at our own peril.
