Niceness is a ruse. If you wonder why women don't like nice guys or "nice guys finish last," it's because under every nice guy's exterior is a raging, ineffectual lunatic.
I hate niceness so much that when I'm nice, it pisses me off.
To be nice is to lie, in essence. It's to say what you think the other person wants to hear, to make yourself seem kind, gracious, giving. But it's bullshit*. It puts you in a slave/master relationship that'll end with resentment on both ends. I hate nice people. I hate sycophants. When I say "hate," I mean, they aggravate me. I don't know what to do with them. I feel like a slave to the relationship, like I can't be myself or say what I really mean.
Kindness is something unique from niceness. Kindness is when you're truly, sincerely generous, while also being reasonably cynical and pissed off most of the time. Seriously, anybody who lives with any sense of awareness has to have some hint of a bad attitude, because life really does suck. It just doesn't suck completely.
So nice guys DO finish last, because their niceness is like the pink balloons on a Brittany Spears album. You know there's nothing but shit on the inside. That's why it's so dressed up.
