Memphis

So here's how my trip to Memphis for the 2008 GM Conference went. It's more than a little long, so I used a few LJ cuts.

Glad you had fun. I need a few days like that myself. It's been ridiculously busy at school. Thank goodness I have a bit lighter workload second semester and 2 more prep periods a week. Report cards are due in a couple of days so that will occupy most of my free time until they get done.

Time for a bath and then some sleep. Take care.

It was nice to have a few days away from Sac, but there was a lot of work in Memphis. And now, I've come back to a few doubles in a row, many reviews to do, and interviews to conduct. It's been a busy few days back.

Hope you got your report cards taken care of.

I'm fresh off of a 12-hour day, and I'm going to be writing up some employee reviews. The work never ends ...

I ended up with close to 14 hours yesterday and still didn't get all the marks done for the report cards. Too boot, I recorded the elementary marks incorrectly - we changed the format this year from the 4 previous years I have been here - so I had to redo them all. :-( I complained a lot about the changes because the way they are now tells parents virtually nothing on the strengths and weaknesses of their child, but simply gives an overall synopsis if their child is achieving at grade level, above grade level or below grade level. I would have to add a comment on every child for every subject, 108 in all, to inform the parents/guardians of something they used to be able to determine with the old-style report-cards.

Enough said, reports are in and the weekend is starting. Time to go home, grab a bite, a drink and then off to the rink to participate in a curling bonspiel. Hope you will have some down time yourself this weekend. Take care and stay cool.

Man, 14 hours ... rough. I could easily put in that many hours, but I'd just as soon take some of my work home with me and not spend the whole time in the restaurant.

Sounds like the changes to your grading system are a hassle. Don't you hate when they make backwards-stepping updates?

Time to run some errands before work. Take care.

I'm totally zonked. I had to get up much earlier than I like for a weekend (8:30) because our curling team had a 10 o'clock game. It probably wouldn't have been quite so bad but we didn't finish our game last night until 11:30, which meant I didn't get to bed until well after midnight. I think the real killer though was all the stress and hours of school-work this week. I don't mind working to live, but when you start living just to work it really sucks.

The good news however is that we ended up winning the curling tournament and I also won $67.50 in a 50/50 draw. :-)

I requested that our staff discuss the elementary report-card marking system at our staff meeting scheduled for Wednesday. I'm sure nothing will be altered this year, but I'm going to strongly recommend that some changes be made for next year.

Right now though I'm off to bed. Hope your having a good weekend. Later.

Congrats on the wins. ;-)

I'm just off of two doubles, and have today and tomorrow off. My roommate and I have brutal hangovers from drinking 7 different wines with Casey last night (they had a wine tasting at her restaurant, and she got to bring the leftovers home). We just got back from dinner at a Thai place, and now we're just nursing our hangovers. Haha.

Tomorrow I get to go to a wine tasting held by one of our distributors at a local nice restaurant. Free lunch and free wine, can't complain. On the 11th I also get to go to a high-end VIP wine tasting in Napa. I'm excited for that one.

Right now, it's time to kick back on the couch. Take care.

I should know how to spell that word, considering its French origin, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm thinking maybe there should be a second 's'. Oh well, either way you seem to be being trained to become a real wine and diner. ;-) Lucky you ( ... )

Two "s" and an "o" instead of the "a". Connoiseur. Hehe.

Cream cheese tarts sound tasty. I'm also hungry right now, so I need to find something to eat. Haha.

It's been really rainy and windy today. Fairly cold, but of course nowhere near as cold as where you are.

I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Do you plan on going to the doctor about it?

We're closed today for superbowl Sunday. It's a welcome day off considering I worked almost 62 hours last week (26 1/2 of which were over the course of 48 hours on Friday and Saturday). It was quite exhausting.

I'm gonna find something to eat and go relax on my day off. I work a double the next two days. Take care.

I guess I should have just tried sticking with aficionado. ;-)

I actually did go to the hospital when the injury happened, but only got to see a nurse, as the doctor was on call. She contacted him and he had her give me some nasal ointment to keep my nose moist. He also said if my nose started to bleed again for more than 5 minutes to come back in and he would have to pack it. Thank goodness that wasn't required. My nose has been feeling much better although there appears to be a slight crook to the upper part now. I'm afraid my modelling days are over so there's little point in trying to get it straightened out. ;-)

I played last night and had no problems, so that's a relief.

I'm sure glad you get a day off every now and then. I'd hate to see you get burnt out.

Speaking of hunger, I'm getting some pangs myself. I guess I should finish up some lessons for tomorrow and head home for a meal. I've got hockey again tonight so I need to make sure to stock up on my energy.

Take care.

Haha what's funny is that I misspelled connoisseur in my reply ... but I think it's becaused I tried to bold the letters and typed the html in wrong (making the second "s" disappear). It also made the rest of my comment bold. Oops.

Glad to hear your nose is getting better. Hopefully the crook will even out as it continues to heal.

I've done nothing productive so far. I think that will be the theme for the day.

I did notice that you had made the spelling mistake, but I had to cheat by double-checking in the dictionary. In French connais means 'to know', so that is probably why I thought there was an 'a' instead of an 'o'. However, that being said, I don't think it's becaused I tried to bold anything. ;-) In fact, I just found out I don't know how to bold things in these messages becaused I just tried to bold becaused. ;-)

Supper-time awaits. Have a nice relaxing Super Bowl evening and I'll catch up to you later.

Haha oh man ... I need to proofread my comments. Can I blame everything on shear exhaustion? Or how about the fact that I haven't been wearing my glasses today? Haha. To bold something, you use the html markup of "b" and "/b" within angle brackets (and you put whatever you want to bold between those). It's kinda hard to explain because I don't know how to show examples of the markup without making them functional (actually bolding something). That probably wasn't helpful at all. Hah.
