I'm fairly certain this will be a pretty epic post, so I've decided to section it off.
Pre-Vegas Work/Accident/Laundry
I worked Monday night, hoping to make a last quick bit of cash for Vegas. It wound up being a much busier night than I expected, and I did fairly well for it being a Monday. After work, I headed home to pick up my laundry, which I was going to do at Jayme's place since we still don't have a working dryer here. I was driving up 19th St. towards S, and I came to the intersection of 19th and J. I had a solid green light, and to my left there was a railroad crossing with its arms down and lights flashing. From my right came a white Toyota Echo, barreling through its red stoplight towards me. I had to swerve to avoid it, and in turn I hydroplaned (it was raining fairly heavily) and wound up going over a curb between a stoplight and a parking meter (luckily not hitting either of those things) and came to a stop partway on the sidewalk and partway on the lawn by The Old Spaghetti Factory.
The first thing I did was get out of my car and run to the edge of the sidewalk to get the license plate number of the car that had run the light. It was stopped at the railroad crossing, and I was hoping it would turn around and come back to check on me. It didn't. As soon as the crossing arms went up the car behind it honked and it drove away. No less than three people walked right past my car, too, without even a second glance or checking if I was okay (I'm sorry, but it is not a normal thing to see a car parked on a sidewalk/lawn in the middle of midtown). I got back in my car and called Jayme (who lives just a few blocks away) and she came right over. Next, I called the police to tell them what happened. The first people I talked to was very helpful; she told me that they would put out a broadcast for the car that forced me off the road, and then asked if my car could be driven home. I told her that I thought it could, and she said that if I found damage to call back and they would send me the paperwork for a hit-and-run (she said since the car forced me off the road it could be considered as such).
When I got off the phone with the police, Jayme and I got out and looked at my car. We found that my right front rim was bent, and air was leaking out of my tire. We also noticed that the hubcap from that wheel was gone, which we found a good 75 yards from my car. I drove the car down the sidewalk into the actual parking lot of the restaurant and parked it (I could hear the air escaping the tire as I drove it). I called the police back to tell them that I couldn't drive my car home, and the lady I talked to that time was not so helpful. She told me that her supervisor said that it could not be considered a hit-and-run due to the fact that the car did not collide with me and therefore had "no malicious intent". Apparently I should have let the car hit me. They said that they wouldn't file a police report, and that if my insurance needed any proof I talked to the police that I could give them a reference number, but she kept reminding me that it was not a police report.
I called my roadside assistance through my insurance next. They sent out a tow truck, but the estimated time was an hour. Jayme and I decided to run across the street and get some food at Plum Blossom. We walked in, and the first person we saw was Genaro with a group of his friends. They had only gotten there a few minutes prior though, so they didn't see my accident. We got food and went back to my car just as the tow truck arrived. I had texted Jonathan about what happened, and he showed up from work right as the tow truck got there. Instead of towing my car the driver put on my spare for me, and I was able to drive my car home. Jayme followed me to make sure that my car was going to be running okay, and Jonathan headed home to finish packing for Vegas.
I grabbed my laundry and headed to Jayme's. Jonathan had his mom drive him to Jayme's place (so he wouldn't have to leave his car downtown) and we hung out there watching tv while I was waiting for my clothes to finish. It took quite a while for the clothes to dry, so we didn't end up getting back to my house until I think around 3:30am. Jayme had driven me to her place so that I wouldn't have to drive my car, and Jayme was so tired by the time that my laundry was done (she had to work in the morning) that she had me just drive her car back to my place and I said I would bring it back to her the in the morning before she had to go to work. That meant I had to get up at 8am, so I really didn't get much sleep before our trip.
Las Vegas - Day 1
Natalye showed up at my house (she was nice enough to offer to drive us to the airport) at around 9:45am. We got to the airport and checked in for our flight (which wasn't until 12pm). We wandered for a bit, Jonathan picked up a People magazine and got a cinnabon, and then we went into a sports bar. It was only like 10:30am, but I ordered a drink to start off the trip. The bartender said their drinks are all doubles, so I had a double bloody mary and Jonathan had a double rum and coke. We ordered some nachos, too, and hung out there for a while. I had a second drink (though I was only charged for one), and we left for our terminal about 25 minutes before we were supposed to fly out. We flew out pretty much on time. Our flight had to make a stop in Ontario (CA, not Canada), so it wound up being close to a three hour trip altogether. On the way to Ontario I had a scotch, and Jonathan just had an apple juice cuz he felt funny. On the way from Ontario to Las Vegas we each had a beer. I had brought my travel Scrabble game with me, so we played that to kill the time, too (Jonathan won).
We showed up in Vegas around 3pm. We got our luggage and then grabbed a shuttle to Exalibur, which is where we were staying. We checked in and headed up to our room, 25273. We got situated there, and then headed out to get a bite to eat at "Sherwood Forest", a little 24-hour cafe in our hotel. After eating, we headed out to wander the strip. We walked through Excalibur, and went to Caesar's Palace, MGM Grand, New York New York, and The Venetian. At The Venetian we stopped at the Monopoly slots, which are some of Jonathan's favourites. He sat down at the first machine and found a cashout ticket. I initially thought it wasn't an actual cashout ticket, but it was ... for nearly $125. We went to a cashier and cashed it, and then Jonathan went back to the machines and played for a few minutes, making another easy $70. We were off to a good start. Haha.
We got pizza in New York New York and then sat down at a video poker bar and had a few drinks. Jonathan went off to play some slots and I went and played some single-deck blackjack for a while. I didn't make any money doing that, unfortunately.
We wandered Caesar's Palace and got some drinks. Jonathan got a 48-oz strawberry margarita that cost him $19, and I got a 48-oz mai tai that cost $29. It was quite strong though, so I got a good strong buzz going from it.
We went and played in MGM Grand, where I played more blackjack and Jonathan played the Star Wars slots. Eventually we headed back to Excalibur, taking the tram from MGM Grand.
Jonathan played blackjack with me at Excalibur, and he got hooked. We were playing at a table with a guy named Ken who was also from California. He told us that we needed to be ordering our drinks as doubles, so we did. I started drinking double scotch and sodas, and Jonathan drank double vodka/cranberries. Eventually we decided it would be a good idea to take shots, so we started taking vodka shots in addition to drinking our double drinks. This girl named Jessica from Colorado was playing there with us, and she started taking shots with us, too. We all got extremely drunk and I think fairly loud, and one of our dealers totally hated us. He scowled, started dealing really fast and seemed all too happy when it was time for him to leave the table. We went through several more dealers, and they seemed to have fun with us. I'm pretty sure I was up for a while, but the alcohol made me reckless and I gambled away all the cash I had on me that day, despite Jonathan protesting against it. We eventually left the table and headed back to our room, noticing as we passed a window that it was getting light outside. It was almost 7am! We got to the 25th floor and since our room was at the end of the hallway, we ran all the way there. It was funny. We passed out until mid-afternoon.
Las Vegas - Day 2
We got up on Wednesday and were feeling pretty lazy (surprisingly after all that I had to drink I wasn't the least bit hung over though). We turned on the tv and watched some random court shows, and then decided that we wanted to order room service. We each had an omelete and coffee. We didn't get up and moving around until around 4:30pm, I think. I stopped by an ATM to pull out some more cash since I had lost everything the night before, and then we headed over to the Luxor to try our luck there. We both played a bit of blackjack, and it did not go well for us at all. We each lost well over $100 fairly quickly. We decided we didn't like the Luxor much. Haha. Next, we headed to the Hooters casino to check it out (we had to make at least one trip there, since we go to the Hooters in Sac all the time). We played blackjack there for a while, too, and I lost another $100. Jonathan stopped after $40 and went to play slots. After a while I joined him, because I felt like playing something that I wouldn't lose money on quite as quickly. Haha. We had originally planned on eating at the Hooters inside the casino, but there was a huge line, so we decided to head back to Excalibur and eat there.
We went to Sir Gallahad's Prime Rib house for dinner. We had prime rib and lobster, and it was pretty good. I ordered far too big of a prime rib though, and I didn't even get through half of it.
After dinner we played in Excalibur for a while again. We didn't do that great, again, but I was able to play for a couple of hours using $100. Jonathan wandered off to play some slots after a while, and then came back to my table later on. There was a big group of people around the table though, so he said he was gonna go back to the room for a bit. I played for another 20 minutes or so before I lost the rest of what I had, and then I headed back to the room myself. We had seen a sign for $5 blackjack tables at the Tropicana, and at this point we wanted to play for cheap so we headed over there. Unfortunately, there was only one $5 table and it was full, so we left and headed to the MGM Grand again. I gambled away another $100 there and called it quits, but Jonathan played a bit longer than I did and made some of his money back. At least one of us was winning a little.
It was time for them to shut down the section of tables where we were playing, so we headed out. On the way though we came across a strange game ... it was a large rectangle with little plastic horses in it. Upon closer inspection we found that it was a horse racing game. You put quarters into the machine, the game would give a series of odds on different pairs of horses (rather than betting on just one horse you had to pick who you thought would be the horses to finish in first and second) and you would bet on them. The plastic horses would move along a track, and everyone at the game would yell at the horses and cheer them on like they were real or something. We decided to give it a shot, and we found that the game was actually totally fun and really addicitng. I got a couple of rolls of quarters and we sat and played for probably a good two hours, all the while having some drinks because the cocktail server stuck pretty close. Eventually we stopped and headed back to our hotel, not all that much earlier than we had gone to bed the day before.
Las Vegas - Day 3
We were originally set to check out of our hotel at 11am on Thursday. The problem with that was that our flight home wasn't until 8pm. On Wednesday though, we got a message saying that we could check out at 3pm if we pay an extra $25. We decided to do that. We slept until sometime between 1pm and 2pm and then got up and packed. We checked out by phone and found that they had a baggage check where we could leave our stuff so that we could still wander the strip for a few hours before our flight. We checked our bags and headed out.
We went to the Monte Carlo and wandered, because we hadn't yet been in that casino. We stopped at a Nathan's Hot Dogs inside and grabbed some food, Jonathan having hot dogs and me having a philly cheesesteak. We grabbed an ice cream at Haagen-Dazs afterwards and wandered the casino for a bit. Jonathan played a few slots while I looked on (having decided I could not gamble any more since I had spent so much money on the trip).
We left the Monte Carlo and headed to the Bellagio, because although we had stopped there and taken pictures, we hadn't actually been inside. I knew the Bellagio was nice, but DAMN. I actually wound up taking more pictures inside of the Bellagio than I did on the rest of the trip put together. Haha. Jonathan and I both said that we want to stay there the next time that we go to Vegas.
We headed back to Excalibur around 5pm and picked up our bags, and then waited for a shuttle to take us to the airport. We were a good two hours early for a flight, but we wandered the airport. Jonathan picked up a few magazines for the flight, and then we stopped and got a cinnabon to snack on. Our flight boarded a few minutes late, and it was much fuller than our flight over. We actually had to share our row with someone, whereas on the way there we had an empty seat between us.
We played Scrabble again to kill the time, and I won this time. At least I could say I won something on my trip to Vegas. Haha.
We got back to Sacramento about 10 or 15 minutes late. Jonathan's dad was there waiting to pick us up.
And thus our Vegas trip came to an end.
I spent a crazy amount of money, but it was an absolute blast. I can't wait to go again.
