Flight musing

So, I had the morning plane from Oslo to Newark today. I had checked in online (well, as far as I could, which included selecting seats), and had picked seat 5D (innermost of the first row of cattle class, because it has decent legroom).

When I get to me seat, there was a couple with a kid (2-3 years maybe?) in the other seats, with the guy sitting in mine. Nothing strange about that. He promptly got up when I mentioned it was my seat. He then went to the prusers and started talking/dicussing with them. I figured with the kid he might want to see if some other seating could be arranged.

Right before departure the main stewardess comes up to me and quietly informs me that after we've taken off, because someone else further back had a seat problem, they were giving me a complentary upgrade to business class.

My lucky day it seems. I gladly moved forward once we were airborne, and then a little later the stewardess informs me the reason they moved me was because the husband of the couple had complained that "I smelled", I can only say I was utterly baffled. The guy had been next to me for all of five seconds. My guess is he just wanted to try to arrange an upgrade to business for him and his family and used me as an excuse. Instead he got me upgraded.

Service was very nice in business. Several of the other stewards also apologized to me about the man's behavior, and seem to think that he guy had just wanted me out of the seat next to him, so the couple and their kid could have all three.

My main reaction is WTF, if you want the third seat, stop being a cheapskate and book 3 seats. Secondly was how nice the Continental staff were. I'm definately sending an email to them and refer to the flight.

Sitting in Newark currently waiting for my connecting flight :)
