Someone new and worthwhile on the friends list posted something very honest and revealing about a very complicated sort of situation with a very complicated person with the two of them having a very complicated history. And if anyone can relate to that sort of thing...

It's been my personal experience that a lot of people have no idea how to respond to something like that, and rather than babble or say something that might accidentally and unintentionally hurt the speaker, a lot of people will just say nothing, even if their heart goes out to the person posting. Took me a long, long time to start to understand that just because people didn't reply didn't mean that people didn't care.

Probably helps that writing is one of those things I've always been good at, so it's rarely difficult for me to find the words to say what I want to say or am feeling. And even though our situations are different in a lot of ways, and many of the "outlying" emotions we're having with regard to our respective situations are different, I very well understand the sense of loss and of having some pieces missing that couldn't really be replaced, and wanted to at least let you know that someone who was reading "gets it".

At the end of the day, I think, there's little in this world that really matters much beyond one's connections to other people.
