Yuki Kaori - The Cain Saga, vol. 04 pt. 2 (Eng. trans.)

This one didn't send me into hysterics of delight, as Cain/Godchild usually does, though there was a moment that made me laugh for a straight minute (and then I choked and coughed and really scared the rats).

I think part of the reason why I am not in hysterics of delight is because I totally don't buy Cain's love for Meridiana. Also, I find Cain's love for her rather boring. I feel sort of bad about this, because I am all for more non-dead female characters (does Meridiana count? She's non-dead, but in an undead sort of way...). But... innocent Gothic shoujo heroines bore me! I would have been much more interested had Cain fallen for Emeline, who at least tried to be active.

Better yet, I think cain should encounter a one-eyed female assassin/mass murderer/specialist in poisons instead.

That said, the moment that made me howl with glee was when Cain broke into Jezebel's Sekrit Hideout, only to find rows and rows of organs in jars! And not just that! But behind him, there are three heads in jars!! I feel I must note that they are three separate heads in three separate jars, because really, you never know (and for those wondering, yes, I have seen anime/manga with two heads in a single jar).

On the other hand, Yuki Kaori goes into Extreme Plot Mode, in which everyone has about five separate secret identities and/or multiple personalities, and each identity has three different motives. It is all very confusing (though still not as confusing as Angel Sanctuary!).

As far as I can tell, Meridiana is really undead, except Jezebel tried to trick Cain into thinking she was her living servant look-alike made to look like Meridiana with plastic surgery to torture Cain. Jezebel has been killing women and disembowling them to feed Meridiana their blood and organs to keep her undead (though now she is actually dead-dead, thanks to a self-sacrificial gesture of True Love).

Oscar is the disowned son of some family. Gilford has two personalities, one of which came to the fore when the maid Lisa poisoned him regularly to make sure he loved only her, even though he didn't, but she was still happy because he depended on her. Somehow he went off and killed people who displeased him, and these killings are separate from the Jezebel-Ripper killings. And he has forgotten random letters of the alphabet.

Wait. There is also the killer with the butterfly on the face, who is actually Meridiana's mother. Is she killing for Gilford? And Gilford is also Meridiana's fickle fiance, who committed suicide with her, but didn't really.

So confused!

Anyway, and then there is a short story in the end involving secret twins, cross-dressing, and I had no idea what happened because everyone looks alike! And then they go off and disguise themselves as each other!

Ok, now I am trying to suppress giggles, because wow. The plot! The incoherent plot!
