Kubo Tite - Bleach, vol. 21-24
I know I say this pretty much every time I talk about Kubo, but I love his art! So much! The little grumpy chibis! The dynamic lines! The fight scenes! I don't even care about fight scenes and he makes me think they're exciting!
And now, finally, I have finished the Soul Society arc! I actually feel somewhat fuzzy toward Byakuya after his confession that his wife was Rukia's sister (!!), though I was getting thoroughly sick of Rukia being mournful and polite to Byakuya and One-Armed Bomb Lady.
I'm also somewhat irritated by the direct positioning of Rukia and Orihime as rivals, though thankfully they aren't even a fraction as insane as the rivalries in Watase Yuu's manga are. But still.
And yet, all these qualms are totally brushed aside by the newest arc! I have no idea what's going on with the Aran--whatevers because I can't keep track of names for the life of me, and they're sort of boring. But Ichigo's Hollow powers are not being ignored!
Plus, when Urahara and Yoruichi showed up to stop a sword blow, I actually said, "EEEEE!" out loud and waved my hands around like an idiot. Then I had to stop and surreptitiously look around, even though I was in bed, just to make sure that moment of pure dorkiness went unseen.
And then the shinigami showed up!!!! And I flailed around and went "EEEEEEE!" again because I was SO EXCITED! I resort to capital letters! But! Hitsugaya! Matsumoto! Renren!!! (I am nearly at a point in which I do not associate him with my rat, but still not quite, so pardon the dorky nicknames.)
And then there is that totally awesome two-page panel in which you see Ichigo's surprised face and Rukia's slim silhouette in the window and I flailed and went "EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" for the third time and nearly posted something just to get the excitement out because Rukia! She is back! She is grumpy! She uses her evil shoujo ways to get housing from Ichigo's family!
Also, I had a minor "eeeeee!" moment (not quite caps) when it turns out that Isshin is also a shinigami or something, though it was also mingled with "WTF?" I fear reading manga has warped my mind so that I can only talk in letters and acronyms.
Still. I still snort at ban kai and Ikkaku having ban kai despite not being a captain, and the limitations and how they are being released, and the pure shounen-ness of Ichigo being sad that he is not strong enough to defeat every living thing and every non-living-once-dead thing. But I don't care because it is just so fun, and Yoruichi and Urahara kick ass, as does little Jinta flying off in the face of a giant monster dude. And the shinigami! I love the shinigami so much!
Oh, also, Ishida attempts to get his Quincy powers back and Chad asks Urahara for training.
And, I can't believe it took me so long to notice, but Urahara's jacket is a negative image of the shinigami captain coats, except without a number.
In conclusion, I got itty-bitty lesbian ninja figurines from rilina yesterday and they are the bestest things ever.
