I think I wrote about this one on LJ once. I got to the abortion, and put down the book: too excruciatingly grim for my taste.

ZOMG. The abortion is the least of it. I must tell you the ending over the phone or email or something if you don't care about being spoiled. It totally is up there on your Gratuitously Depressing Books awards.

That sounds horrid. I almost always take old favorites when I go on vacation. So much less chance of book trauma. *Carefully adds this book to her do not read list.*

It wasn't just all the angst in the beginning! I mean, it wasn't fun at all, but when I got to the end, and how she got in prison? Oh my god. And that's the part that's historically accurate, but still. Gah.
