I've been writing Star Wars fanfics for over 10 years now but this is the first serious project that I've given birth to around 3 months ago. It's pretentiously entitled Chronicles from Mandalore because it centers around Mandalorians and I just lack the creativity for titles.
Chronicles... is long, rather slow and I tried to make it interesting. It sure will be if you liked the Mandalorian aspects from Republic Commando novels and the short A Practical Man but personally I don't like using the Mando'a language too often in my writing since it doesn't sound real enough to my "mind's ears".
The main character is
Bardan Jusik, first reason because he's a Jedi turned Mando (oh, ha ha - cliché already) and I wanted to work on real character development based on him. I think Karen Traviss kind of slacked a bit on that side while she could have shown a little more. Secondly, he always appears conveniently neutral in Republic Commando, eager to please Skirata and friends, and more or less devoid of a backbone until the end of Triple Zero. But he's actually a "mando sandbox", good at everything he does so, being lazy with action descriptions it takes a chunk of work off my hands.
There are original characters that I created for the sake of writing a plot, humor and some drama (I'm honestly not a big fan of the "clone drama"), to see the mando universe from an ordinary person's perspective. A few cameo appearances from the Skirata clan (a few clones, Kal himself, etc) and, because I love young men wearing plasteel armor, some Stormtrooper action as well. Who doesn't love those guys?
I'm currently writing the
second part of that series and I'm facing a slight author's block... hopefully getting new readers will boost my productivity a bit. If not well, tough shit! ;-)
