Title: [Drabble] A fool for a reason
Character/Pairing: TaecJay
Rating: PG
Genre: Angst
In all honestly, it really was his fault. If he could turn back time, he would have taken that first burst of confidence back, taken that first conversation back. Actually, forget the conversation. He would go back to the first time he laid eyes on the other boy, and take that moment back. Cause as soon as their gazes met, he had fallen hopelessly and helplessly in love.
Ok Taecyeon was never one to venture far out of his bubble. His world was filled of logical reasoning- every action having an equal and opposing reaction. It was safe to say Taecyeon wasn’t much of a dreamer, so it came to no surprise that he wasn’t one to believe in love at first sight and thought it ridiculous and completely absurd that one could have such a rush of strong emotion purely based on one single encounter.
It was completely illogical, and Taecyeon was a fool for reason.
He wasn’t ready for it. He was unprepared, because nothing to that day had ever come close to being able to intrude on his little world for him to be prepared. Absolutely nothing, until he came along.
As soon as his eyes landed on the shorter boy his brain stopped working, which was utterly impossible. Not to mention that his heart suddenly had a mind of its own, and simply taking from these analogies, he knew something was wrong with him.
His friends warned him. They did, because the shorter boy was the CEO’s son, and they had an image to maintain. Not to mention the amount of both girls and guys that went after him and it wasn’t just because his family was rich. The boy had the looks and apparently the wit to match as well.
Taecyeon couldn’t understand it. Why his thoughts often roamed to him, why that shorter, more muscular boy was constantly on his mind. Why Taecyeon would even come to wonder what the boy was doing at that exact moment whenever he thought about him.
He had been warned, but he didn’t listen. So when Taecyeon finally plucked up enough courage to talk to him, the taller boy was surprised when he responded with a snark reply, the shorter boy seemingly amused by the stranger.
And to his luck, or perhaps his bad luck, Taecyeon chanced on him again, and they somehow connected. Even if the boy saw him merely as a friend, Taecyeon was simply thankful that he could be graced by the boy’s smile, his words, even the light punch on the arm that sent chills down the taller boy’s spine.
Taecyeon was hopelessly and helplessly in love. It was as if his black and white world had been given a dose of vibrant colour. Bright lights, blinding almost.
And just like that, it all disappeared. Just like that, he was suddenly left flailing aimlessly in the dark.
He had found someone, someone he didn’t think of as merely a friend.
Maybe some higher up had noticed them hanging around too much together and suggested that the boy maintain a decent image, for his father.
Why would Taecyeon think that? Because never once did they converse about a specific girl, or boy, in his case; they never did, not to his knowledge anyway. That was how Taecyeon rationalized it. But no matter what ideas he came up with, one thing was absolute.
He was the friend. And she was the girlfriend.
And if it couldn’t get any worse, he couldn’t even explore this so called relationship, the relationship that seemed to have completely doused whatever flame he didn’t even know had once lit up inside him. He wasn’t even allowed to watch the shorter boy depressingly from a distance. He moved soon after.
They had warned him, and he hadn’t listened, so it really was his fault.
Ok Taecyeon should have known. That that term was based on an elaborate metaphoric and mythological psychological schema involving love arrows or darts from some mythological creature, the most popular being that naked baby with wings and a bow. What a stupid explanation, and he was a fool for a reason.
