Seriously? That's how this series is going to start?

Is it the duty of every Doctor canon to be pissing me off right now? Although I guess since NEDA Series 3 came out like two years ago, I am being retrospectively pissed off. What the hell is this?

I love you Alan Barnes, I think your scripts are honestly some of the best, but your claim that this was a story about some sheriff that is getting back on his horse is simply... what's the word? No, it's words, which are: WHAT FUCKING LIES. Are you kidding me? This was the story of the sheriff being shot with a time bullet and forced back on that horse and led passed out out of the town he had finally decided to stay and die with, waking up to find that that town had been destroyed and he essentially had no choice but to keep going on his horse.

WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START OFF THIS SHOW'S SERIES. I'm so glad that we know that the Doctor is a willing participant in all these events to follow. Never mind the already pressing issues of your inability to learn how to pace yourself in the hour you've shortened your time to, which I admittedly think have gotten a bit better, but WHAT THE HELL.

I hated everyone in this episode. I didn't hate the Doctor for forgetting about Lucie because, well, he's Eight and Eight has a habit of doing that. I did, however, hate the Doctor for letting Lucie - letting anyone suffer like that. She was quite clearly in pain, and even if he didn't know her, even if he thought she was working for the other side - just. The Doctor... as I interpret him, at the very least, wouldn't have done that.

And perhaps this is a particularly sensitive time, what with Series 6 of New Who and everything to quibble about choice, but I am furious at Lucie, as much as I am furious with the Doctor for not saving her, for not accepting the Doctor's choice. I accept that it was selfish. I'm kind of reminded of Charley's decision to stay in the TARDIS with the Doctor at the end of Zagreus, which led into Scherzo where he is extremely upset with her, and probably the only reason they manage to make up in the end is because there is little choice left. And the thing is, as apoplectic I am at Lucie for forcing this decision upon him, I honestly could not buy that the Doctor was enjoying his time there. He didn't sound unhappy, but he didn't sound content either. Which makes everything in this episode absolutely confusing and inconsistent and... just... shit.

It's just - there is a very clear way this story could have gone and had none of these issues and the writers didn't use any of them.

Oh, and I hate the Headhunter because by this point, I am annoyed by her continually coming up in the stinger of every episode having gotten away with something.

So what have we got in the end? We've got an unhappy Doctor, unwillingly travelling in the TARDIS, saving the universe not because he wants to, but because for once in his life, he feels like now he has nothing better to do.

Great. This really feels like Doctor Who. The show about the traveller who runs and keeps running, seeing things, exploring things, saving people because he was just someone who cared.

Oh, and the fact that this entire episode was JUST ABSOLUTELY FUCKING POINTLESS. The entire plot of this episode was omg, the Keltans are going to die, well they die. The Doctor can't stop them, and if he could, Lucie certainly doesn't allow him the chance to try. There was nothing to gain from the events of this episode other than, of fucking course, to add another planet's death onto the Doctor's shoulders, a planet he had fallen so in love with to have decided even after getting all his memories back to stay on it, die for it. Whoop, gone. AND THE STELLAR MANIPULATOR WASN'T EVEN DESTROYED, making their sacrifice go from useless to AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Oh my fucking Jesus, this audio.

I really don't know if I have words for how angry I am other than anguished screaming. Anguished screaming I am already using up while watching New Who!

Fuck's sake.

doctor who, rant
