grounded.

i had to swim to the bottom of the ocean
i had to bargain with the sea
drifting by the water of holy devotion
you said, "the sun is using me."
i reached in, and pulled you
from the wreckage
a tiny flicker in the dark
your body, just a broken ship
the anchor was your bleeding heart

toe to toe by nail and teeth
were all the creatures of the sea
so sorry, just to see you leave
they watched your ship go off sailing
and but of this the night was born
it settled at the ocean's core
for of all lights the lost did lead
you were the brightest, ever seen

i had to climb the clouds to reach you
i took a rocket to outerspace
for all the stars insisted on keeping
the divine retention of your face
the moon and i, we did some talking
upon consultation with the night
we all agreed that for their keeping
you were a star that shined too bright

by sight of flight and firefly
were all the creatures of the sky
so sorry, just to see you go
days longer now, the nights were slow
and upon the eve of your dissent
i'll find my way to where you are
this is the they way that things were meant
your body,

just a falling star.
