It's the journey not the destination.

And yet again I've found myself out here in Denver. Despite the amazing heat wave, the weather out here is GREAT!

The first leg of the family vacation is done. Mom, Sam, and I left Indiana last Friday and got to Rick's for some relaxation. The rest of the evening was filled with giving gifts, watching Spark of Insanity, and playing with an Atlas beetle. He's HUGE and stinky!

On Saturday we went down to Rick's friend's parent's place. They have land that goes to a shallow creek with a gravel bar. It's pretty shady and even has a cool train bridge going over and a small rapid section. So we all spend the afternoon and evening playing around before we went home to pack for the second road trip.

Early on Sunday we left Rick's and headed for Denver. We drove through some storms and saw some AMAZING clouds. Simply stunning! Around 2pm near KC, I spotted a beautiful doe off to the side grazing in the ditch and wooded area. A sight to see considering the time of day!

The came the rest of KS. Crosses, water towers, windmills (including a HUGE wind farm in the middle), oil rigs, cows, buttes, and finally storms. I was a complete dunce and left my weather radio at home so I had no idea how severe the storms in east plains of CO were. I tried a few people for some help and finally got ahold of Dave. Thankfully, nothing too bad, the lightening appeared otherwise. Around midnight MDT, we finally get to Jeff's. After way too many hours in a car, we call it a night.

Monday was filled with sleeping, swimming, and dinner at the Yak and the Yeti. Pretty awesome place with GREAT veggie food. I love the cuisine from Napal! Tuesday we spent hanging out with Grandma, going up to the Flatirons in search of the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and then swimming some more before the rain moved in. Finally we had dinner at one of my favorite places, La Estrallita!

Today is already looking busy. We'll most likely drive down to Garden of the Gods which is near the Springs. Not sure what the rest of the plans are, but that's definitely most of the day. Tomorrow Mom, Sam, and I will head up to Estes Park to take a tour of the Stanley Hotel. I'd like to take a tour of Celestial Seasonings and then hit up the World Market in Boulder before coming home. Friday will be filled with final packing for our trip up to Gillette, WY. I'm so excited that PGI is almost here! It's been a year since I last saw Dave and I'm sure it'll be tons of fun. Oh the trouble we could get into! ;)
