Chaz here. Yes, I also recall much of that embarrassing episode. As I recollect, "Gary" was quite knowledgeable about PA systems and in five minutes cleared up much of our monitor feedback issues. Much of what he shared serves me to this day. His familiarity with sound systems was one of the reasons we were taken in.

Rather than free-basing, I recall them main-lining. At the time I was giving myself bee-venom antigen by injection because of an extreme reaction to a sting. I had a packet of new syringes and offered one to "Gary" who was planning to use an old needle. After shooting up his "date" he proceeded to use the same needle instead of a fresh one. I concluded this was a show of intimacy between druggies or foreplay or something. In any case, there was definitely some cooking going on in the kitchen.

When "Gary" showed up at Steamboat Springs with my car (whew!), I remember the members of Kayote, who had literally been waiting in the shadows, escorting him out of the building. When I followed minutes later someone was sitting on his back grinding his face into the ground. I took this opportunity to collect my car keys from his pocket along with a bag of herb which I tossed aside. This was all taking place along the frontage road of the 610 Loop in the glare of headlights from passing cars. Very surreal. Moments later an off-duty police officer arrived on the scene and the members of Kayote were trying to explain how this guy had ripped them off without mentioning the missing cocaine. The con-artist was strangely quiet. By this time I had gone over to see if my car was OK and was witnessing the exchange from a short distance.

The sodium lamps of the parking structure cast an eerie hue over the area. It was like watching film noir. I returned to the club and guess the officer finally convinced the boys in the band to let him go. Less paperwork?

I still remember the sense of calmness I felt after I spoke to this con artist on the phone and realized he was actually going to return my car. Then the members of Kayote showed up and I knew that karma was a reality. I wondered if he had learned a lesson or continued his ways. I guess he really got off easy that time. I guess we did too. I snagged the bag as we left the club to go home.

This is why I love this stuff. You and I remember a lot of different details concerning this train wreck. I witnessed none of the confrontation and had no recollection of you 'taking part'. We must compare other stories.
I plan on doing one one Judy Whitmire and Jim Economides and how that tied in with the massive recording project at Jeff Wells. There are a few comical moments in there as I recall.
Good to hear from you, my old friend...

Oh yeah! The the Judy and Jim Show, I can't wait. I think I was living under the staircase at that point. The memories are starting to churn, much like the Mexican food we used to eat at 4am after our gigs. Chaz

Ah....the meals at Andy's. With that big 'Lurch from the Addams Family' waiter. Those were some of the best meals ever, though I can also remember almost falling asleep in the cheese enchiladas.

Funny thing....I came across Jim Economides name in a book. He worked with Marc Bolan from T. Rex for a short while. Who knew? And I believe you WERE living under the stairs at that time. I think she was hoping to hook up with one of us. Was it you? Didja?

You need to send me some of your memories to see what that jogs in mine. I know I've forgotten a bunch. Some of it was pretty damn entertaining!
