I just watched Dubya hold a 'press conference' in the Cabinet Room after a meeting. He waxed eloquently (pause for laughter & applause) about reducing the deficit (we're 'ahead of schedule) and job creation (we've created 2 million jobs this year and more Americans are working than in anytime in our history. The fact that there ARE more Americans than ever before contributes to that beautiful phrase. And I'll bet he counts all the illegal immigrants in that statistic since it helps the over-all picture) and he talked about Congress needing to hold down the spending budget (except, of course, in Iraq). (I know that was a long and rambling sentence full of parenthetical asides just a day after I criticized an article for being confusing, but I think rambling muddling is the new clear thinking)
Anyway...to my point. (Thank God) (And I hope to end this parenthesis thing soon)
His press conference consisted of three questions...two on Karl Rove and one on the Supreme Court nomination. On Rove he said, "It's an on-going investigation." Twice. Didn't keep the White House from flatly denying Rove's involvement 2 years ago when there was the same on going investigation taking place. Nor has the fact been addressed that Scott McClellan said in 2003 that he had directly talked to Rove who said he had nothing to do with it. Somebody in the White House is full of BS. Oh wait, that seems to be the whole culture of that group. Anyway...that's the official line. No comment until we have no excuse not to. I've a feeling once the investigation is over, there'll be an advisory group set up to study how or if Rove should be punished. That'll take awhile, with plenty of 'no comment until the advisory committee reports.' Then he'll be censured 2 months before then end of the administration's term. That should work out just fine for Dubya & the gang.
Of course, we MIGHT be witnessing the beginning of the collapse of this wall of voodoo (which, while I hope this gang gets its comeuppance and that the American public truly comes to understand how these people are, I know that an administration mired in vigorously defending itself will never accomplish much and will become crazy & desperate. Not that we could discern that from what's going on now). (I think that's the last 'aside'.)
Anyroad, that's me rant on this lovely Wednesday morning. I'm going to watch the shuttle launch in a few hours & celebrate Man's tenacity. And his Hope. My heart will soar like a hawk.
